These 4 coops operate at various levels of ability, liquidity, infrastructure, managerial and operational capacities. The 4 credit unions are in 5 districts with membership of over 10,366. Three of the credit unions (Salaga, Bimbila and Kpandai community credit unions are in dire situation and need a thorough assessment to understand the situation and support them develop rescue models to save the investment and savings of members. In the northern chapter of the Cooperative Credit Union Associations (CCUA) there are about 22 independent coops within this umbrella body.Most of the credit unions are struggling due to technical, financial, administrative, and managerial challenges. VOICE for women and girls aims to support these coops to be able to develop innovative products and services to support their various member needs and demands. But the coops will first have to have a solid foundation backed by strong management and BOD.The VOICE project will benefit from the expertise of a strategist. The coops are looking for ways to get out of their current financial and operational predicament. They are looking for a strategist who understands community-based credit union operations, grant proposal development specialist, credit union financing and management. This role is expected to support a thorough assessment of the operations and identify key challenges and provide an analysis of viable solutions to curbing the situation. The volunteer will also assess their assets and liabilities and determine the recovery path.ObjectivesYour role is to work with the cooperatives to identify the challenges that is stifling growth and developed strategies with the coops to develop and facilitate recovery plans.&nbsp; You will conduct an assessment and analysis to identify the operational challenges of the coops in the board and management and advise on the best way forward. &nbsp;Develop a road map that determines targets and timelines as a growth strategy. The Law Foundation of Ontario was established in 1974 under the Law Society Act. The 
Foundation receives and uses the interest on lawyers’ and paralegals’ mixed trust accounts to 
support legal education, legal research, legal aid, and law libraries in Ontario. It does this 
through grantmaking to nonprofits and providing funds to Legal Aid Ontario. The Foundation 
also administers the Class Proceedings Fund, which provides cost assistance in class actions.

The Controller will lead a proactive and hands-on approach for the day-to-day financial 
operations and reporting. This includes preparing financial statements, ensuring accuracy and 
compliance with financial regulations, and providing detailed financial information and analysis 
to support financial decisions. 

Under the guidance of the Director, Strategic Finance, and in collaboration with a dynamic, 
high-performing team, you will provide controllership expertise and advice in the development, 
implementation, and enhancement of financial reporting, structures, and decision-making 
processes 

You will also: 

 • Prepare and review periodic financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with 
financial regulations. 

 • Manage and control ongoing maintenance of the Foundation’s Chart of Accounts. 

 • Lead the finance team in performing in-depth analysis of month-end variances. 

 • Maintain an effective framework of internal controls to safeguard assets and promote 
efficiency. 

 • Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and the annual audit. 

 • Collaborate with the Foundation’s auditors and provide necessary documentation. 

 • Support cash planning processes to ensure timely disbursement of grants and 
operational requirements.

 • Lead and optimize the month-end close process to maintain timeliness and accuracy of 
financial reporting. 

 • Coordinate the annual Budget process and update the Foundation’s forecasts. 

 • Promote and support the implementation of innovation and continuous improvement 
within Finance and across the Foundation. 

 
Qualifications 
We are seeking an innovative and positive team player with: 

 • A postsecondary degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field. 

 • Professional accounting designation (CA or CPA). 

 • 7-10 years of experience in progressively senior-level roles. 

 • Experience with multi-dimensional accounting applications within an ERP system. 

 • In-depth knowledge and skills in financial management, controllership, financial and 
budget planning, and the full cycle of accounting activities. 

 • Proven understanding of banking processes, financial data analysis, and financial 
legislation. 

 • Excellent relationship management and communication skills. 

 • Experience in the philanthropic and/or non-profit sector is preferred.
