identity and expression, and sex characteristics. Our mission is to help at-risk LGBTQI+ individuals get to 
safety and to build lives free from violence and discrimination. 

Since 2006, we have supported over 21,000 LGBTQI+ individuals through our services including

The Volunteer Role 

Translators play a vital role in bridging communication gaps between program staff and LGBTQI+ 
individuals who are navigating complex systems in search of safety and support, and ensure that 
our case individuals can have their documents appropriately translated to support their case. We 
are seeking compassionate and dependable volunteer translators fluent in both English and at 
least one of the following languages:

â Ability to commit for one year on an on-call basis 


 
Qualifications 

Personal Skills 

â Written fluency in English and at least one of the listed languages 
â Excellent communication and writing skills 
â Discretion, professionalism, and a deep sense of empathy 
â Alignment with Rainbow Railroad’s mission and sensitivity to LGBTQI+ issues 
â Experience working with the LGBTQI+ community and/or asylum seekers and refugees is an asset

GOAL 
The Canadian Migraine Society (CMS) is looking for an experienced and passionate 
Volunteer Grant Writer who, under the direction of the Founder and Director, will 
research grant opportunities, as well as prepare and write grant proposals to expand 
the mission and efforts of the organization. Previous experience with grant writing is 
key, along with strong writing skills and the ability to develop compelling grant 
applications. This role is remote and would require 3-4 hours per week, submitting a 
grant application every 6-8 weeks. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
1. Grant Proposal Writing: 

o Prepare, write, and submit well-researched, compelling grant proposals. 
o Tailor proposals to fit the specific requirements and guidelines of each funding 

organization. 
o Craft clear narratives that align with the Canadian Migraine Society’s mission, 

programs, and goals. 
 
2. Grant Research: 

o Identify new funding opportunities through thorough research on potential 
grant-making organizations. 

o Stay updated on trends and priorities in the non-profit sector and funding 
landscape. 

 
3. Collaboration and Coordination: 

o Keep in regular communication with the Director of CMS. 
o Ensure deadlines are met, and proposals are submitted on time. 

 
ASSIGNMENT BOUNDARIES 
All work is produced under the guidance of the CMS Director, and this volunteer will 
not create grants or proposals without permission. The commitment will be on an 
ongoing basis, 3-4 hours per week.

detail. An ability to clearly communicate our mission and impact to potential

this expertise in our current team. An understanding of patient advocacy and

deadlines. In addition, a good understanding of nonprofit funding sources, 
databases, and relevant tools.
