Volunteer Content Writer & Storyteller

OUR ORGANIZATION

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, an estimated 1 in every 50 (2%) Canadian children and youth has an autism diagnosis. While early-childhood supports exist in pockets across the country, services thin dramatically through the school years and virtually disappear in adulthood.

The Living Autism Foundation (Canada) is a Toronto-based nonprofit building confidence, belonging and understanding for neurodivergent people across the lifespan. Our work is organized around three programs: the Trailblazers Gavel Club, a youth public speaking club chartered with Toastmasters International; Inclusive Martial Arts, where neurodivergent and neurotypical young people train side by side; and The Bridge, neurodiversity education for students from Grade 2 to graduation, growing into neuroinclusion consulting for campuses and workplaces. LAF is a registered nonprofit corporation currently pursuing registered charity status with the Canada Revenue Agency, and is guided by a standing Autistic Advisory Council with real decision-making authority.

THE ROLE

The Living Autism Foundation is looking for 1 volunteer Content Writer & Storyteller to write the words that move people to act. Our programs create real moments of courage and connection every week. You will capture those moments and turn website visitors into monthly donors, volunteers and partners.

Our new website copy is drafted. This is a founding-stage role with real scope: you will polish it, keep it fresh, and build the stories, newsletters and fundraising campaigns that grow LAF's community across Canada.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Polish and finalize our website copy so it is warm, clear and persuasive, with a strong call to action on every page

Interview participants, families, volunteers and coaches (with consent) and write short impact stories

Write fundraising appeals for GivingTuesday, year-end giving and our monthly giving program, The Bridge Builders

Write a monthly email newsletter and 2–4 blog articles per month that help families and attract search traffic

Write social media captions in LAF's voice: professional on LinkedIn, warm and community-focused on Facebook Keep every piece accurate, plain-language and respectful, following LAF's style guide

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERTISE

Excellent written English, with samples of web, fundraising, marketing or storytelling work; please include 2–3 samples

Ability to write persuasive calls to action without exaggeration

Comfort interviewing people sensitively, including young people and families, with care for consent and privacy

Use of respectful, strengths-based language, including identity-first language (“Autistic people”) by default, as agreed with our Autistic Advisory Council

Basic knowledge of SEO and writing for the web; strong attention to accuracy and deadlines

Nonprofit fundraising or grant-writing experience and French writing skills are assets, though not required

Genuine interest in autism inclusion and accessibility; lived or professional experience with the autism community is welcome but not required — we'll share what we know

BENEFITS

Lead ownership of LAF's voice and storytelling for a founding-stage national nonprofit

Published, by-lined work on our website, newsletter and social channels

Direct collaboration with LAF's Executive Director and Sprezza Advisory's strategic team

A letter of reference provided after a completed term of volunteering Acknowledgement on LAF's website and social media

Fundraising and nonprofit communications experience for your portfolio Additional benefits discussed at interview

THE COMMITMENT

This is a remote position; occasional in-person meetings in the Greater Toronto Area (South Etobicoke) may be arranged

This is a volunteer, unpaid position Approximately 3–5 hours per week, with flexibility around your schedule

This is a 6-month initial commitment, with the possibility of extending into a longer-term communications lead role

We'd like to fill this position as soon as we find the right candidate

1 position is available

HOW TO APPLY

If you fit the profile above and would benefit personally and professionally from contributing your writing to LAF's mandate, please send your expression of interest, including your current resume and 2–3 writing samples, to avi@thelivingautismfoundation.ca, with the role title in the subject line.

LAF welcomes applications from Autistic and neurodivergent people, people with disabilities, and people from all communities. Accommodations are available at any stage of the process, including interview questions in advance or written instead of spoken answers; just let us know what works for you.
