Love movies, the film industry and giving back to those in need? The Canadian Picture Pioneers 
(CPP) is the longest serving not-for-profit charity associated with the Canadian movie business. 
Since 1940, the CPP has provided over $4.2 million in total assistance, and the charity is 
looking for a new Executive Director to ensure that legacy of giving continues. 
 
The CPP’s primary function is to serve as the industry’s community network, dedicated to 
supporting the well-being of its members across Canada, as well as fostering and creating 
mentorship opportunities for the industry’s next generation of Pioneers. The CPP does all this is 
by working with a dedicated Board of Directors and network of volunteers to organize national, 
regional and community-specific fundraising events that bring members from all levels in the film 
distribution, exhibition, media, associations and film technology (among others) sectors together 
in support of a great cause. Fundraising events ensure the CPP can continue its legacy of 
offering assistance programs to those in the industry across Canada who need financial support 
through tough times. 
 
The CPP also offers a Student Assistance Awards program that helps industry members and/or 
their families with post-secondary education costs. CPP’s charitable activities and other 
programs are entirely funded through the generosity of its members and industry partners. 
Structurally, the Canadian Picture Pioneers is made up of two separate Canadian organizations, 
a not-for-profit (known as ‘CPPNPO’) with regional branches across Canada and a charity 
known as the Canadian Picture Pioneers Trust Fund (‘CPPTF’). 
 
The global film industry is evolving quickly, and in addition to executing the organization’s 
existing strategic plan, the new Executive Director will be at the forefront in creating a vision for 
the future. They will be solely responsible for overseeing the CPP’s giving and assistance 
programs through its not-for-profit division and its charity. Reporting to the CPPNPO Board and 
the CPPTF Trustees, the successful candidate will also manage its partnerships, marketing, 
membership recruitment and communication, fundraising, events and program management, as 
well as general financial accounting, overall reporting and administration. They will also act as a 
point-of-contact with a similar organization in the United States, the Will Rogers Motion Picture 
Pioneers Foundation, and work closely with Canadian studios, exhibitors and industry 
associations, as well as new partners. 
 

Core Accountabilities 
 • Promote the CPP, while developing and implementing strategies to increase 

membership and industry partnerships 

 • Lead, manage and execute key events to drive fundraising efforts and promote 
fellowship across the film industry in Canada 

 • Lead and inspire film industry volunteers to support key initiatives and events 

 • Full administration responsibilities of the CPP office, including but not limited to 
maintaining databases and website, industry communication, organizational 
bookkeeping and record keeping, and government documentation

 • Keeping abreast and informed about industry and systematic changes available, 
whether related to policies, programs for arts and/or funding opportunities 

 • Steer all board meetings and required committee meetings 

 • Support and drive the ongoing process for all applications for assistance 

 • Manage all aspects of the annual Student Assistance Awards program and Internship 
Program 

 • Monitor the fund’s investment strategy and work closely with the Investment Manager 

 • On-site leadership at all CPP events 

 • In partnership with the CPPNPO Board and the CPPTF Trustees, create and execute 
the CPP’s next strategic plan and vision for the future. Provide both with information and 
resources to promote and drive growth. 


Qualifications &amp; Skills 
 • University or post-secondary education in business, arts, communications or a related 

field 

 • At least 7-10 years of progressive business experience, with preference given to film 
industry experience 

 • Not-for-profit, charity and/or board experience preferred 

 • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate in a 
clear, concise and compelling manner 

 • Creative, professional, self-motivated and constantly looking to implement best not-for-
profit practices in all areas of both fundraising and event planning 

 • Proven track record of success in/around the entertainment industry and strong 
relationships within the industry across Canada 

 • Strong critical listening skills

pour l'expérience dans l'industrie cinématographique. 

 • Expérience dans le domaine des organisations à but non lucratif, des organismes de 
bienfaisance et/ou des conseils d'administration, de préférence. 

 • Excellentes compétences en matière de communication écrite et verbale,

Role purpose: 
Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a senior leader on the Canadian leadership team, the 
Director of Major Gifts will support and drive forward our ambitious strategy. They will be responsible for 
developing new partnerships with foundations, businesses/corporations, and high-net-worth individuals who 
align with our values. This role is focused specifically on the development and growth of Major Gifts 
fundraising. 
 
As Director of Major Gifts, you will lead in developing and supporting strategic relationships to ensure the 
long-term financial sustainability and growth of our movement. This will include a strategic focus of major gifts 
and the use of data analytics for identifying major gift prospects. You are responsible for increasing support 
from international grassroots supporters, foundations, corporations, major donors and other strategic 
philanthropic partners. 
 

Key responsibilities &amp; activities: 

Develop prospecting database: The Director of Major Gifts will develop a comprehensive database of 
Canadian corporations/businesses, foundations and high net worth individuals aligned with Mary’s Meals 
mission who present potential partnership opportunities. 
 
Develop and implement fundraising strategies: The Director of Major Gifts will be responsible for 
developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that aligns with the organization's mission 
and goals. This will involve identifying potential donors, creating fundraising campaigns, and developing donor 
recognition programs. 
 
Cultivate new major and HNW donor relationships: 

 • Identify and cultivate new major and HNW donor relationships to expand Mary’s Meals Canada’s 
donor base and increase revenue. 

 • Create proposals for potential donors, tailored to their interests and goals by leveraging existing MM’s 
promotional materials to create a clear and compelling story that highlights the impact of school 
feeding programs for children and communities in India, Zambia, Malawi, and Kenya.

 • Develop relationships with potential donors by reaching out to key decision-makers, attending 
community, and networking events, and inviting potential donors to events and volunteer

Engage donors: The Director of Major Gifts will cultivate strong relationships with donors, including major gift 
/ high-net-worth donors, foundations, and corporations. 
This includes: 

 • Identifying the interests and motivations of donors. 

 • Creating customized engagement plans to maintain their support such as offering recognition to 
corporate donors by including their logos on our website, social media channels, and event materials. 

 • Donors will be offered opportunities to engage with the organization, such as speaking at events or 
volunteering. 

 
Achieve 2025 fundraising goal: The Director of Major Gifts is expected to bring in $250,000 of new money 
from High-Net-Worth Individuals, Foundations, and Corporations within the year 2025, contributing to the 
organization's overall financial sustainability and growth. 
 

 • Track fundraising progress: The Director of Major Gifts will monitor fundraising progress and adjust 
strategies as needed to ensure that the organization meets its fundraising goals. 
This includes: 

o Analyzing fundraising data, identifying trends, and making recommendations to improve 
fundraising efforts. 

o Overseeing CRM and tracking systems in collaboration with Administrator, Operations &amp; 
Donor Relations. 

o Ensure that weekly reporting dashboards are available for the leadership team to review. 
o Offer in-time recommendations based on trends that are visible through the database. 

 
Collaborate with other departments: The Director of Major Gifts will work closely with the Executive 
Director, Director Operations and Engagement, Director of Marketing and Communications and Head of 
Finance as well as the Board of Directors to ensure that fundraising efforts are integrated with overall 
organizational goals and messaging. In addition, it will be vital to build relationships with colleagues across 
the Mary’s Meals community who hold similar portfolios to brainstorm larger (global) philanthropic partnership 
opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities 

The duties of this role will vary as the organization evolves, making adaptability a core competency 

for the incumbent to possess. The primary focus areas for this position are: 

Finance &amp; grant management 

1. Oversee and review full cycle accounting duties for Purpose Forward as well as multiple 

clients, primarily in QuickBooks Online. 

2. Ensure payroll, payables, and receivables are processed in a timely manner for clients. 

3. Lead the period end (month, quarter, year) processes to ensure the accuracy of financial 

information. 

4. Manage all grants and funding restrictions, including supporting budget preparation, 

maintaining QBO and other systems, tracking cost allocations, generating financial reports, 

monitoring the receivables cycle, and generating funder reports. 

5. Develop and prepare remittances and reports for various stakeholders, including 

management, Boards, funders, government, and staff.

1. Lead the administration and processing of all payroll, benefits, and pensions for us and our

2. Prepare remittances and reconciliations for various stakeholders, including management,

3. Oversee the year-end payroll processing for us and our clients. 

4. Load payroll journal entries, calculate accruals, allocate labour costs, and coordinate the

Client Support &amp; Technical Training 

1. Respond to client requests in a timely and professional manner, maintaining details within our

Qualifications and Requirements 

The ideal candidate: 

1. Has a Canadian CPA designation and at least 3 years of relevant industry/assurance 

experience OR has a minimum of 5 years of full-cycle accounting experience in the Canadian 

non-profit sector. 

2. Is an advanced MS Excel user or has relevant programming experience to effectively 

manipulate data for automated posting and reporting. PowerQuery and multi-level formulas 

will be evaluated during the interview process. 

3. May also have a payroll designation and/or payroll experience, which are a strong asset. 

4. Will be able to demonstrate good judgement, critical thinking skills, adaptability, and ability to

Position Description 

Title: Treasurer, IFA Board of Directors 

Accountability: The Treasurer is a voting member of the Board of Directors, appointed in 

accordance with the bylaws. The Treasurer is accountable to the Board for 

fulfilling the duties and responsibilities outlined below and to oversee the 

organisations financial administration especially in the areas of fraud, theft 

and noncompliance. 

Term of Office: Two years, with the possibility of renewal for a second term. 

Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per month (including board meetings, meetings 

with the Executive Director, and committee meetings).

Roles and Responsibilities: 


1. Financial Oversight: 

 • Oversee the development and review of high-level financial policies. 

 • Ensure that cyber security systems are in place to protect the organisations finances 

 • Ensure the financial management systems are robust and reduce the risk of 

fraudulent activity 

 • Alert the Board to any risks identified in the area of financial management 

 • Ensure the preparation and presentation of the annual budget to the Board for 

review and approval. 

 • Ensure that appropriate monthly or quarterly financial statements are reported to 

and reviewed by the Board. 

 • Monitor the organization’s financial performance and alert the Board to any 

significant discrepancies between planned and actual figures. 

 • Ensure the board understands its financial obligations. 

 • Oversee the development and implementation of risk management strategies and 

internal controls to mitigate identified risks effectively. 

2. Financial Records and Reporting: 

 • Ensure that the organization maintains accurate and up-to-date financial books and 

records. 

 • Review all internal processes and reporting methods at least annually 

 • Ensure timely submission of government tax filings and remittances. 

 • Ensure that payroll and other liabilities are settled promptly. 

 • Serve as a co-signer of cheques with at least one other signing officer. 

 • Ensure that excess funds and reserves are properly held and invested wisely. 

 • Verify that donations are handled appropriately and that grants and service delivery 

contracts are accounted for in accordance with funders' requirements. 

3. Audit and Compliance: 

 • Meet with the external auditor annually, or more often if needed, to identify any 

financial control and record-keeping problems or deficiencies. 

 • Where these are identified that remedial actions are implemented as part of IFA’s 

continuous improvement activity 

 • Oversee action by the Executive Director and financial officer to address any issues 

identified by the auditor. 

 • Recommend to the Board the need for a review or renewal of auditing services. 

 • Assist the CFO, Secretary General and Board Chair with the development and 

presentation of the annual report. 

 • Present or co-present the organization’s financial report and recommend the 

appointment or reappointment of the auditor at the Annual General Meeting. 

4. Committee Membership: 

 • Automatically a member of the Executive Committee, if one exists. 

 • Chair the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and Budget Development Committee, if 

necessary. 

Qualifications and essential criteria: 

 • Qualifications in financial management / accounting 

 • A basic understanding of accounting and knowledge of the laws that govern the organisation 

 • Understanding of the requirements that govern a not-for-profit organisation 

 • Knowledge of the requirements that govern an organisation with charitable status 


 • Knowledge and skills in board governance, policy, finance, programs, and personnel. 

 • Regular attendance at periodic board meetings. 

 • Ability to prepare for and participate in board meetings and committee meetings. 

 • Commitment to the work of IFA

We are also seeking people with lived experience of Aphasia, including people with aphasia and their loved ones. Previous non-profit board experience is a plus but not required. We will provide education in non-profit governance to incoming board members. All applicants must demonstrate a passion and a commitment to supporting people with Aphasia and the mission of Halton-Peel Community Aphasia Programs (H-PCAP). About Us:The Halton-Peel Community Aphasia Programs &nbsp;(H-PCAP), is a not-for-profit organization that funds services for people living with Aphasia.&nbsp;Aphasia is a communication disorder, typically caused by a stroke or a brain injury, that affects a person's ability to understand, speak, read, or write. People with aphasia may struggle to form words, understand speech and express themselves clearly.
