Fundraising Coordinator, Member Board of Directors

About us:

Foodsharing Ottawa is a grassroots non-profit dedicated to reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity in our community since 2015. Through partnerships with local businesses, farms, and food retailers, we rescue surplus food and distribute it to community partners, such as shelters, food banks or community groups that help feed those who are facing hunger. In addition, we run a public education program, and participate in community activities aimed at reducing food wastage at source.

Position description:

As a part of Foodsharing Ottawa’s plan and effort to strengthen its financial stability, we are recruiting a board member with a minimum of five years fundraising and event planning experience to help us continue our journey in food rescue and food waste reduction.

As the Fundraiser, you will lead the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation and execution of a fundraising plan, which will include but not be limited to: personal and corporate donations, sponsorships and events planning;
    • Work with other board members to create a compelling Foodsharing Ottawa donation / sponsorship value proposition
  • Monitor plan progress and modify it as required based upon key lessons learned
  • Identify, engage and build relationships with potential donors (both corporate and personal) and sponsors
  • Improve processes to accept donations
  • Develop and implement fundraising events and campaigns
  • Maintain a database tracking all of the above activity

As an active board member you will be eligible to apply to other roles within the Board as they become available (secretary, vice-chair, chair, treasurer, etc.).

Requirements:

As a board member, you are required to:

  • Attend virtual monthly meetings (at least nine and up to 11 a year)
  • Contribute a minimum of 8 to 10 hours per month to support the organization; the commitment will be greater as the initial plan is developed
  • Provide leadership and oversight to help volunteers create and run projects
  • Maintain current knowledge of the organization, its programs, bylaws and articles of incorporation

About you:

  • You are passionate about the environment, food insecurity and addressing food waste
  • You have a minimum of five year experience in fundraising, and events planning and may additionally have worked in or volunteered with a non-profit organization
  • You are creative and think strategically
  • Above all, you are able to lead and inspire others towards a shared goal and vision

Benefits of this opportunity:

  • Values-driven work: Gain experience in a frontline organization dealing with Ottawa’s food waste problem, while supporting food insecurity in the community
  • Build your network: Connect with Ottawa’s small, medium and large business sector, and the local charity and community organization ecosystem
  • Refine your skills: Get to know the ins-and-outs of the role of a board of directors, governance in the not-for-profit sector, and our food supply chain

How to Apply:

If you would like to support our mission, and can commit for at least two years, we encourage you to apply by sending your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your interest and relevant experience to boards@foodsharingottawa.com prior to July 31st. Please include "Board of Director - Fundraising " in the subject line.

Join us in the fight against food waste! Together, we can create positive change and build a more resilient community.
