This care aims to help individuals live as comfortably and thoroughly as possible. The end of life is a significant stage in a person's journey, often filled with many emotions and thoughts. One of the volunteers' most valuable contributions is to be a listener. This supportive presence is part of the patient and family’s team without being a medical team member. Volunteers offer companionship, emotional support, encouragement, comfort, and assistance to individuals facing death and their families. To schedule your interview, please complete the following steps: 1. Submit your online application and register for an orientation. 2. Attend a Baycrest Volunteer Orientation. 3. Complete the online eLearning modules. A link will be emailed to you after the orientation session. Have you ever wanted to give back to your community in a meaningful and enriching way? Now is your chance. Volunteers are a vital part of the Crisis Line. Every year, our highly skilled volunteers contribute more than 35,000 hours to our 24-hour crisis line, supporting our callers with sincere, delicate care and empathy.Interested applicants should be:&nbsp;<ul><li>Empathetic &nbsp;</li><li>Non-judgmental&nbsp;</li><li>Open to feedback</li><li>Comfortable operating a computer</li><li>Respect the confidentiality of others&nbsp;</li><li>If working remotely, have a stable internet connection.&nbsp;</li><li>Volunteers should commit to a minimum of 16-20 hours per month.&nbsp;</li></ul>Volunteers will undergo approximately 40 hours of virtual training, 20 hours of self-paced training and 20 hours of practical training before starting their role as a crisis line responder. No cost for all training .Some of the topics covered are Crisis De-escalation, Mental Health, Boundaries, Suicide, Self Harm, Children at Risk, Abuse, Trauma, Violence and Homicide.Although the training and the position can be intense, support is available for responders such as debriefing and access to support 24/7.The abilities gained through volunteering on our Crisis Line are valuable not only for personal development but also in career opportunities and everyday life.&nbsp;Many volunteers find our program useful for developing marketable skills and exploring educational options.The demand on our service is growing substantially and assisting our callers on our crisis lines is a way to not only make a positive influence in the life of the caller, but as well for your community. Care to Speak Peer Support is Looking for VolunteersCare to Speak is a peer-based phone, text, and webchat service providing free and confidential support to healthcare and social support workers in BC.Care to Speak&nbsp;is searching for individuals who have current or&nbsp;previous experience working in either the&nbsp;healthcare&nbsp;or&nbsp;social services&nbsp;field and&nbsp;would be interested in volunteering their time to provide peer support to our service users.&nbsp;Interested applicants&nbsp;should&nbsp;be empathetic,&nbsp;non-judgmental,&nbsp;open-minded, open to feedback,&nbsp;have access to – and are comfortable operating – a computer,&nbsp;respect the confidentiality of others,&nbsp;and can commit to&nbsp;volunteering&nbsp;4 hours per week for&nbsp;a 1-year term.&nbsp;&nbsp;Interested parties must complete a FREE comprehensive online training course prior to starting their role. If that happens, you will get an automated message asking you to call back in a few minutes.The call is anonymous and you are in charge of what information you share and what you talk about.Sometimes people call because something has happened recently and they need to do immediate safety planning, or make decisions about getting medical care or reporting to the police. Other times people call because they are coping with something that happened a long time ago and just need to hear a friendly voice. Lots of people call us when they aren’t completely sure what they need. That’s completely okay! No previous experience with math is necessary for volunteers and all training is provided by Big Brothers. This program is offered virtually and in-person in Greater Vancouver. Our Math Mentors are<ul><li>Adults aged 18+, inclusive of male, female, trans, and gender diverse individuals.</li><li>Reliable, consistent, dedicated and respectful of others.</li><li>Available to meet once weekly during weekday afternoons between 4:00pm and 5:30pm for 90-minutes for in-person sessions, or 60 minutes for virtual sessions.</li></ul>Our Mentoring with Math volunteers are asked to enroll in two 8-10 week terms as it's the best way to experience this fun program.
