Position Summary
The Employment Counsellor provides integrated employment services from initial assessment through employment and retention. Using a client-centred case management approach, the Employment Counsellor works with individuals experiencing a range of employment barriers to develop employment plans, coordinate wraparound supports, connect clients to employers, and support successful long-term employment outcomes.
This position requires someone who is organized, compassionate, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, performance-based environment while maintaining a high standard of client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct client intake, determine program eligibility, and complete employment assessments.
- Develop individualized Employment Action Plans based on each client's goals, strengths, and support needs.
- Provide one-on-one employment counselling, career coaching, and job search support.
- Manage an assigned caseload and provide ongoing case management from intake through employment and retention.
- Identify employment barriers and coordinate referrals to training, education, settlement, housing, financial, mental health, and other community supports.
- Support clients in understanding Canadian workplace culture, employer expectations, and employment standards.
- Assess eligibility for employment-related financial supports in accordance with program guidelines.
- Match clients with suitable employment opportunities and support successful placements.
- Advocate on behalf of clients to support access to employment, training, community resources, and other services that contribute to successful employment outcomes
- Develop and maintain relationships with employers, community agencies, educational institutions, and referral partners.
- Plan and facilitate employment workshops, information sessions, job fairs, and community outreach activities.
- Maintain accurate and timely client records using required case management systems. Monitor client progress and contribute to achieving contractual performance targets and employment outcomes.
- Prepare reports, statistics, and other documentation required by the organization and funder.
- Participate in team meetings, case consultations, and professional development activities.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure coordinated and client-centred service delivery.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Career Development, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Adult Education, Settlement Studies, Employment Counselling, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum two years of experience in employment counselling, career development, case management, workforce development, settlement services, or a related field.
- Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation is an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of employment counselling, career development, case management, and local labour market trends.
- Experience supporting individuals facing multiple barriers to employment.
- Strong interviewing, coaching, communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to develop Employment Action Plans, coordinate referrals, and manage a diverse client caseload.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using CRM and case management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other digital platforms.
- Experience working in a performance-based environment is an asset.
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and high-quality client service.
Assets
- Experience working with newcomers, refugees, youth, persons with disabilities, and other equity-deserving communities.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive service delivery.
- Fluency in Arabic or another language in addition to English is an asset.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and access to a vehicle are an asset.
Working Conditions
- Some evening and weekend work may be required based on program needs.
- Travel between ACCT locations and community sites may be required.
