The Canadian Academy for Research and STEM Advancement (CARSA) is seeking a confident and engaging volunteer to moderate its virtual Distinguished Public Lecture Series. The series brings together distinguished scholars, researchers, professionals, and members of the public to discuss important developments in research, science, technology, engineering, and related fields.

Key responsibilities:

  • Welcome attendees and introduce CARSA, the lecture topic, and the guest speaker.
  • Guide the program according to the prepared agenda.
  • Facilitate audience questions and discussion.
  • Keep the lecture and question-and-answer session within the scheduled time.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and engaging atmosphere.
  • Coordinate briefly with the CARSA team and speaker before each lecture.
  • Assist with announcements and closing remarks.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong public-speaking and communication skills.
  • Confidence moderating professional events on Zoom.
  • Ability to pronounce names correctly and introduce accomplished speakers professionally.
  • Good time-management and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience moderating webinars, conferences, panels, or academic events is an asset but not required.

This is a remote, unpaid volunteer opportunity. The selected volunteer must have a reliable internet connection, a working computer, and access to a quiet environment. CARSA will provide the event information, speaker biography, agenda, and necessary guidance before each lecture.
