Sloane’s House is where families of children, aged up to twenty one (21) years, with complex 
health needs will come to join our family of caring professionals; a supportive community of 
parents and caregivers. Located in Whitby, it will be available for those living across Durham 
Region and in the surrounding underserved communities. A rejuvenating place for respite stays 
offering engaging programing for the child or young person, while parents and other caregivers 
take a much-needed break. And for those children and youth who are on their end-of-life 
journey, a place where specialized care will be provided in an environment where quality of life 
will be the focus for however many days remain. 
 
With an estimated 1,900 children with medically complex needs in Durham Region and 
surrounding communities, 800 in Durham alone, requiring paediatric medical respite and 
hospice care, the need for this Children's Hospice Is clear.

Come join a Board dedicated to realizing the vision of a Children's Hospice in Durham Region. 
Currently, we are looking to fill three board positions with individuals who have experience in 
the following areas: 
 

• Events &amp; Fundraising – Experience developing, planning &amp; executing community events, 
vendor sourcing and event budget management. Event management certificate an 
asset. 

• Finance &amp; Audit – A strong business acumen for budget creation, management and 
oversight, non-profit standards for tax and audit. 

• Health Care – A background in a relevant area of the health care sector, particularly with 
insight into policy and operations relevant to respite and/or hospice. 

 
Time Commitment: 

• The board meets as a whole 6-8 times per year (except during the summer). 

• Each director available to serve on at least one Board committee that meets monthly 
(except the summer), and should actively participate in annual fundraising and other 
special events. 

• Directors are expected to serve, at least, one 2-year term. They can be reappointed for 
up to two more terms.

connection. Our work spans all ages and backgrounds, with a special focus on marginalized communities—

supporting individuals in shelters, youth outreach, mental health transitions, seniors’ centers, and more. 

 The Role 

We’re seeking a Part-Time Bookkeeper to join our passionate team. Reporting to the Founder and Board of 

Directors, this role is essential to maintaining the financial health and transparency of our organization. 

 Responsibilities 

 • Maintain financial records from ledger entries to trial balance 

 • Manage accounts receivable and payable 

 • Prepare and process deposits 

 • Run a small payroll 

 • Ensure timely submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual remittances and reports 

 • Generate financial reports for internal use 

 • Coordinate annual audit and liaise with auditors 

 • Support annual budget preparation and presentation 

 Qualifications 

 • Degree or certificate in accounting/bookkeeping or equivalent experience 

 • 3–5 years bookkeeping/accounting experience (non-profit sector preferred) 

 • Familiarity with regulations governing charities 

 • Proficiency in QuickBooks 

 • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace

Sunrise Developmental Support Services (DSS) is seeking energetic and caring volunteers to help make our New Year’s Eve Overnight Bash a night to remember.Volunteers will assist with social activities, games, and celebrations, and provide general support to youth and adults with developmental disabilities during a fun, inclusive overnight getaway at a cozy cabin.Note: Volunteer hours on the 31st will be time and a half, volunteer hours on January 1st will be double time and a half.You can choose your level of involvement:Event Prep: Daytime hours Dec. 31st (timing TBD)Glamour Hour: 5-6 PM - help members get dolled up for the event!Evening Celebration Shift: 6 PM – 12:30 AMOvernight Shift: 6:00 PM – 10:00 AM (sleeping area available, bring bed sheets/sleeping bag)Morning Wrap-Up Shift: 8:00 AM – 12:30 PMUnpacking: 12:30-2:30 PM - assist staff in packing up our items and accompany us (let us know if you'll require transportation) back to our main building (20-minute drive) to help unpack.&nbsp;Celebrate the countdown surrounded by laughter, music, snacks, and community spirit — all while giving back in a meaningful way!
