for adults living with mental illness in Toronto. 
 
About Us: 
 
Trinity Square Cafe believes in the potential of people living with mental 
illness to contribute productively to their communities and develop their 
independence. For over 40 years, Trinity Square Cafe has been achieving its 
mission of facilitating active social participation and concrete skill 
development in a transitional work environment (a cafe in downtown 
Toronto) for people living with mental illness. 
 
About the Opportunity: 
 
Trinity Square Cafe’s Board of Directors is seeking a volunteer Director with 
experience working in the field of finance, and specifically with 
grant-writing expertise. The Board is responsible for providing leadership 
and strategic oversight of Trinity Square Cafe’s operations. We also work 
closely with the Executive Director to ensure program objectives are being 
met. 
 
Interested individuals who have an understanding of mental health issues 
through lived experience, whether through a friend or family member, or 
personal experience are encouraged to apply. Previous non-profit board or 
other volunteer experience would also be preferable, but not a requirement. 
 
Our board is committed to creating a diverse environment. All qualified 
applicants will receive consideration without regard to culture, ethnicity, 
race, color, religion, beliefs, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual 
orientation, nation of origin, disability, age, or veteran status. 
The commitment is a two-year term, with an average time commitment of 
4-6 hours per month. This includes a bi-monthly board meeting which is 


scheduled for two hours, typically starting at 6pm. Each Director is also 
required to sit on a committee and attend meetings on an as needed basis. 
Each Director agrees to attend and actively participate regularly in board and 
committee meetings. 
 
Board meetings are largely attended virtually with quarterly hybrid meetings 
with physical attendance in downtown Toronto. Board members should be 
willing to attend the AGM every year in June, in person.

SHARE pays particular attention to the challenges which women and youth-led SMEs face by matching them with skilled volunteers with management and entrepreneurial experience to provide guidance. Drive Happiness is a non-profit organization which provides low-cost, volunteer-based assisted transportation to older Albertans. It ensures seniors who are unable to drive or use alternate forms of transit due to health, mobility, and/or income barriers are connected to community-based programs and services. This means seniors can obtain vital medical care, pick up groceries and supplies, attend recreation programs, socialize with loved ones, attend community events, and do all the things they need to live well. It also means that caregivers receive a much-needed break. Volunteering with Drive Happiness has definite perks. You choose when and where you drive, and there is no minimum/ maximum requirement so volunteering is convenient for you. You also receive a fuel reimbursement. But most importantly, you get to meet vibrant, appreciative seniors who have interesting life stories to share. So volunteering will not only help you help your community, but will also give you an opportunity to make new friends and have fun.
