The ENGAGE Youth Theory of Change is premised on the assumption that increased engagement of Indigenous youth at the personal, household and community levels, and an improved local, regional and national system of stakeholders, will result in enhanced empowerment of Indigenous youth, especially young women. ENGAGE Youth takes a holistic approach to empowerment, which recognizes the significant needs of the target group and importance of the broad-spectrum of key stakeholders required to achieve the ENGAGE Youth Ultimate Outcome. The project utilizes human-centered design (HCD) approaches that allow for active participation of Indigenous youth in designing and implementing initiatives, and a systems approach that facilitates identification of root problems and focuses on actions that enhance sustainability through working closely with local actors and organizations. Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO) is looking for peer mentors to connect with participants in the From Survivor to Thriver project. The role of the mentor is to listen, encourage, and provide guidance (when requested).&nbsp;This volunteer position offers flexible scheduling and an opportunity to make a significant impact. Mentors will also receive training and ongoing support from project staff.&nbsp;About the Project From Survivor to Thriver is a new, transformative initiative that supports immigrant and racialized women survivors of gender-based violence in their journey toward healing, empowerment, and financial independence. The project helps survivors overcome isolation, develop leadership and employment skills, and achieve greater self-sufficiency through a structured mentoring program, skill-building workshops, and employer connections. The project is being delivered by IWSO in collaboration with World Skills Employment Centre.&nbsp;EligibilityTo be eligible to volunteer, you must be an immigrant or racialized woman who has experienced gender-based violence. Reporting to the Associate Manager, In-Hospital Program (Eastern Ontario), the In-Hospital Program Specialist is accountable for developing safe, fun and engaging camp-style programs that meet the needs of campers and families. This position works to provide an enriching year-round camp experience directly to children and families through hospital and community programs in Ontario. Campfire Circle provides hospital programming at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa, The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto and surrounding satellite hospitals, at McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton, and the Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre. All staff must provide an updated criminal record check or Vulnerable Sector Screening and be currently eligible to work in Canada and for Campfire Circle.WORKING CONDITIONSThis role works primarily in a hospital setting requiring a flexible schedule including significant evenings and weekends.
