Help us tell stories that create impact.

Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) is seeking an experienced Communications & Annual Report Design Volunteer to support the design and production of our 2025–2026 Annual Report.

This volunteer will work closely with the Communications Manager to transform stories, impact data, photography, and organizational achievements into a visually engaging publication that children.

Following the completion of the Annual Report, there may be opportunities to support additional communications and graphic design projects, including social media assets, presentations, and promotional materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and layout the PIRS 2025–2026 Annual Report following our brand guidelines.
  • Develop visually engaging page layouts that combine storytelling, photography, quotes, and impact data.
  • Design infographics, charts, icons, and other visual elements to communicate organizational impact.
  • Prepare print-ready and digital files.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager throughout the review and revision process.
  • Support the design of occasional communications materials, including social media graphics, event collateral, and presentations, as time permits.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has demonstrated experience designing annual reports, reports, magazines, or similar publications.
  • Is proficient in Adobe InDesign (required). Experience with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is considered an asset.
  • Has a strong understanding of layout, typography, visual hierarchy, and editorial design.
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and is comfortable working with professionally edited copy.
  • Has exceptional attention to detail and can produce high-quality work with minimal supervision.
  • Is able to manage multiple revisions and work within established timelines.
  • Has an interest in nonprofit communications, social impact, and storytelling.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 8–10 hours per week (flexible).
  • August to October 2026.
  • Remote or hybrid (Metro Vancouver preferred).

What You'll Gain

  • A lead role in designing a professional Annual Report for an established nonprofit organization.
  • A strong portfolio piece showcasing editorial and publication design.
  • Experience collaborating on a high-impact communications project.
  • Opportunities to contribute to additional communications and design initiatives.
  • A professional reference upon successful completion of the volunteer placement.
