We are currently seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to join our Volunteer 
Board of Directors. As a board member, you will play a vital role in guiding SOAR’s strategic 
direction, ensuring strong governance, and championing our purpose in the community. 

We are seeking individuals with a background in finance, accounting, or related fields 
to strengthen our Board’s financial oversight and strategic capabilities. CPA designation is 
considered a strong asset. Your expertise will help guide fiscal responsibility, establish 
effective financial policies, and contribute to the sustainability and growth of SOAR’s vital 
programs. If you’re passionate about making a tangible impact in your community and want 
to lend your financial acumen to a purpose-driven organization, we would be thrilled to

Responsibilities 

 • Commit to SOAR’s purpose and values 

 • Attend and actively participate in board meetings (virtual or in-person) 


 • Provide strategic oversight and support to the Executive Director 

 • Serve on at least one board committee (e.g., Recruitment, Policy) meeting an 
average of 3 – 4 times per year 

 • Act as an ambassador for SOAR in the community

Volunteers will care for a puppy for a short term period in their own home.&nbsp; All volunteers must have a safe home space to house a puppy and the ability to care for a puppy's needs throughout the day.&nbsp; No minimum commitment required. Childminders are needed to care for children while moms participate in group sessions. Childminding takes place in a room adjacent to the main program room. Ages of the children range from infant - preschoolers (with the occasional school-aged children on PA days)Childminders are never left alone with the children, there will be a minimum of 2 volunteers at all times, as well as program staff to assist. For over 100 years, BBBS has been championing the health and wellbeing of youth. We step in before 
it’s too late, to help prevent the physical and mental effects of adverse childhood experiences. We 
ensure children as young as 6 are supported by caring adults as they overcome these adversities, 
helping them to do better in life – physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and academically.

Many children and youth in our community struggle with societal barriers and face adversities in their 
lives like detrimental living conditions, family violence, risk factors for mental health, school issues and 
identity challenges. These barriers, or Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), cause the presence of 
toxic stress in a young person’s life, which if not reduced or eliminated, can lead to long term harmful 
physical, mental, and social outcomes. 
 
Research informs us though, that the presence of one caring and committed adult relationship in the life 
of a young person with ACEs, is the best predictor of the reduction of toxic stress and therefore allows 
for the growth of self-esteem, resiliency, healthy relationships, and future potential.
