The Registered Nurses Foundation of BC (RNFBC) supports nurses and nursing students across British Columbia through bursaries and other financial assistance that advances nursing education, professional development and the future of the nursing profession.

As RNFBC continues to grow its impact, we are seeking an experienced financial professional to join our Audit & Finance Committee and contribute their expertise to the strong financial stewardship and long-term sustainability of the Foundation.

The Opportunity

RNFBC is seeking a volunteer committee member with experience in finance, accounting, audit, investment management, banking, or financial oversight.

Working alongside members of the Board and RNFBC team, the successful candidate will provide financial insight and contribute to the Committee's oversight of the Foundation's financial management, reporting, audit, investments and financial policies.

This is an opportunity for a finance professional to apply their expertise in a meaningful governance role while helping strengthen an organization that supports nurses and nursing students throughout British Columbia.

Experience in the charitable or non-profit sector is an asset. Experience or knowledge of healthcare, nursing or health systems is welcomed but is not required.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the Audit & Finance Committee, you will:

• Review financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and other financial information and provide informed input and advice
• Support oversight of RNFBC's annual audit and relationship with its external auditors
• Contribute to discussions regarding financial policies, internal controls, risk management, and financial governance
• Support oversight of the Foundation's investments, banking, and financial management practices
• Help ensure appropriate stewardship of RNFBC's charitable resources and long-term financial sustainability
• Provide financial expertise and recommendations to support informed decision-making by the Board
• Participate in Committee meetings and contribute to special projects or financial initiatives as required
• Work collaboratively with fellow Committee members, Board members, staff, and external advisors

Skills and Experience

We are interested in candidates with professional experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Accounting or audit
• Financial management or financial leadership
• Investment management or wealth management
• Banking or financial services
• Financial planning, budgeting or forecasting
• Risk management, internal controls or financial governance
• Charitable or non-profit financial management
• A CPA designation or comparable senior financial experience would be considered a strong asset
• Previous Board or committee experience is welcomed but is not required

The ideal candidate will:

• Bring strong financial knowledge and sound professional judgement
• Be comfortable reviewing and discussing financial statements, budgets and investment information
• Understand the importance of financial oversight, accountability and responsible stewardship
• Be able to translate financial information into practical insights for Committee and Board discussions
• Demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills
• Be reliable, engaged and willing to contribute actively as a volunteer

Have an interest in supporting nursing education and strengthening the nursing profession in British Columbia.

Commitment

This is a volunteer position with RNFBC's Audit & Finance Committee.

Committee members are expected to attend scheduled meetings, review relevant materials in advance and contribute their expertise to Committee discussions and recommendations.

Estimated time commitment: approximately 2–3 hours per month
