
Volunteer Board Directors
Are you interested in families, looking for an opportunity to make a difference, and keen to work with a committed team that oversees an organization promoting and providing family support throughout BC?
The BC Council for Families is recruiting Board Directors of diverse backgrounds with various perspectives from across BC to serve on our volunteer Board.
Our Board is responsible for leading the organization, supporting the Executive Director, and ensuring financial accountability. It focuses on overall governance issues such as: strategic planning, fundraising and development, finance, legal matters, and Executive Director oversight.
The Board meets quarterly. There is a virtual or in-person Annual General Meeting as well as one board retreat per year. Board directors also serve on a working committee(s) such as: Finance, Strategic Planning, Nominations and Governance or Human Resources, etc.
Criteria for Membership on the Board
- Willingness to serve on the Board and participate in committees
Ability to contribute to the Board’s deliberations while taking into account the needs of families in BC
Ability to attend a maximum of four meetings a year (one in person in Vancouver), participate in committee(s), and to be available via electronic media (telephone, e-mail, Zoom, etc.)
Previous board experience with governance is an asset
Some specific skills that are sought: human resources, fundraising and development, finance and legal
Candidates should have a passion for the quality of life for families in BC
A commitment to the Council’s Strategic Plan
Requirements for Directors
- Membership in the BC Council for Families
A commitment to attend Board meetings and participate in at least one committee
A willingness to represent the Council on the local or regional level when necessary
A willingness to bring strategic ideas to the Board
Terms
- Each term is three consecutive years. Directors may serve for two consecutive three-year terms.
