
Volunteer Board and Board Committee Opportunities
COSTI Immigrant Services is seeking several passionate and experienced leaders to join its volunteer Board of Directors, as well volunteers for its Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and its Strategy & Impact Committee.
For more than 70 years, COSTI has helped newcomers, refugees, and individuals facing barriers build successful lives in Canada. Today, as communities evolve and needs become more complex, we are looking for volunteers who want to use their skills, experience, and leadership to help guide one of Canada's largest and most diverse immigrant-serving organizations.

We are seeking individuals who are committed to strong governance and community impact, and who are passionate about contributing their leadership experience to a mission-driven organization
Ideal candidates will:
- Have a passion for community service and social impact to shape the future of an organization that serves nearly 39,000 individuals each year
- Have previous board, committee, governance, or senior leadership experience
- Be able to work effectively within a governance framework and contribute to strong board culture
- Believe in accessibility, inclusion, and community connection and value diverse perspectives and consensus-building
- Bring a thoughtful, respectful, and collaborative approach to leadership
- Be comfortable contributing strategically and constructively to support innovation, and impact during an important period of change and transformation
- Advance opportunities for newcomers, refugees, and individuals facing barriers
Candidates will ideally live in the Greater Toronto Area, as this is the focus area of COSTI.
Priority Areas of Expertise
As COSTI continues to evolve and expand its impact, we are seeking leaders whose expertise can help guide strategic decisions, strengthen governance, and support our long-term success.
- Employment and Workforce Development: Senior leaders from finance, healthcare, construction, STEM, and other key sectors who can support COSTIās employment strategy by fostering partnerships and expanding opportunities for newcomers.
- Housing: Senior leaders in affordable housing, policy, urban planning, and/or housing systems who can help strengthen partnerships and advance housing opportunities for newcomers and vulnerable communities.
- Fundraising, Philanthropy and Revenue Diversification: Leaders with expertise in fundraising, philanthropy, or revenue diversification who can provide strategic guidance, support a strong culture of philanthropy, and help advance COSTI's long-term sustainability.
- Financial Oversight and Accounting: Professionals with a CPA or other financial designation with experience in financial governance, audit, risk management, and fiduciary oversight.
- Digital Governance and Technology Risk: Senior leaders with expertise in digital strategy, cybersecurity, or technology risk management who can help guide governance oversight, innovation, and organizational resilience.

Term:
For Board Directors: 3-year term with possibility of renewal
For Board Committee Members: 2-year term with possibility of renewal
Time Commitment: For Board Directors: Approximately 50-70 hours per year. Virtual Board meetings every two months during the calendar year plus an annual Board retreat (in person) and the Annual Meeting of Members. Board Directors are also expected to serve on a Board Committee.
For Board Committee Members: Approximately 25 hours per year. Up to six (6) virtual meetings per year.
Location: Hybrid / Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Ontario
Start Date: Late 2026
