SVP Enagement and Events Manager
WHO WE ARE: A community of philanthropists and changemakers. We’re a grantmaking foundation, but we give differently. At SVP, we’ve re-imagined the role philanthropy can play in our communities. Through our venture philanthropy model, we find, fund, strengthen, and scale nonprofits with the ultimate goal of helping vulnerable children, youth, and families in B.C. thrive. We also strive to educate and engage philanthropists. To do this, we use the time, talent, treasure and ties of the SVP community--our 150+ SVP Partners (our donors), the SVP team, and our 30+ nonprofit organizations (our Investees and Alumni).
Our Partners don’t just give financially—they also contribute their skills, experience, expertise and networks to help strengthen the organizational capacity of the nonprofits we support. By combining funding with hands-on support, we aim to strengthen individual organizations and contribute to a stronger nonprofit sector overall.
HOW WE WORK: We foster a people-first culture, recognizing that meaningful change happens when our team members feel valued and empowered. Our work can at times be fast-paced but not at the expense of work-life balance. Collaboration is in our DNA—we bring together donors and community leaders to drive change. It is also a core part of our work culture. We are a small team of problem-solvers who wear many hats, often shifting between different priorities and responsibilities within the same day. Everyone works at both the big-picture and hands-on level—you might be shaping an approach one moment and updating Salesforce or troubleshooting event logistics the next. We strive to be flexible, take initiative, and embrace the complexity that is inherent in our work. We celebrate different workstyles and bring our whole selves to work. We work hybrid workweeks in Vancouver and we enjoy spending one and a half days (or more) together in our shared office. Given the nature of in-person events, you will be required to be a resident of B.C. and live within commuting distance of Vancouver, B.C.
THE JOB: This role is about delivering high-quality SVP events and implementing SVP’s Partner engagement model.
A core part of SVP’s model is activating our Partners not only as donors, but as volunteers, advisors and connectors who contribute their expertise and networks to help strengthen the nonprofits we support. You’ll be the go-to person for making this happen in our day to day—coordinating Partner Volunteer opportunities, understanding Partners’ interests and expertise, connecting them with meaningful ways to contribute to our capacity-building programming, ensuring strong communication and coordination, and building and managing the systems that connect Partner skills and expertise with Investee/Alumni capacity-building needs.
You’ll also help implement learning, philanthropic education and community-building experiences that strengthen the Partner experience and deepen connection to SVP and our work. On the events side, you’ll manage larger events, smaller knowledge and social events, online events and other community gatherings end to end. You’ll also gather data, feedback, and capture stories that strengthen Partner engagement, improve our capacity-building work, and help tell the story of our impact.
Working within plans established by the Director of Development and Senior Manager, Programs, you’ll take ownership of the day-to-day implementation of this work.
A typical month might include:
- Planning and delivering approved SVP events from start to finish, including larger events, (e.g., AGM, Impact Open Pickleball Invitational), smaller social events and online webinars, with responsibility for project management, timelines, vendors, communications, run-of-show, materials, budgets and on-the-day coordination.
- Coordinating day-to-day Partner engagement, including onboarding, invitations and communications, follow-up, and connecting Partners to relevant volunteering, learning and event opportunities.
- Coordinating Partner Volunteer activities end to end, working with the Senior Manager, Programs to connect Partner skills and expertise with identified Investee/Alumni capacity-building needs and with the Director of Development on Partner engagement and relationships.
- Building and maintaining the systems and data needed to track Partner interests, expertise, opportunities, matches, participation and follow-through.
- Implementing approved Partner learning, philanthropic education, community-building, stewardship and recognition activities, including sponsorship outreach for relevant engagement opportunities.
- Gathering feedback and capturing Partner, event and Investee/Alumni stories to help strengthen Partner engagement, events and capacity-building programming, and working with the Communications Manager to help share and amplify them.
ACCOUNTABILITY: This role is accountable to the Director of Development and the CEO.
