PROJECTS & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Job Overview

The Projects & Communications Manager is responsible for the development, management and day-to-day execution of the Institute of Municipal Assessors’ (IMA) communications and marketing strategy. Working closely with the Executive Director, this role translates the IMA’s strategic priorities into communications, programs, events and projects that support member engagement, professional development and the overall visibility of the Institute.

The position manages the IMA’s traditional and digital communications, including content development, website and social media management, member communications, publications, event and program promotion, and brand management.

The Communications and Project Manager also serves as a key project management resource for the IMA, leading and supporting major initiatives including the Annual Conference, national virtual events, professional development programs and other strategic projects. The position works closely with IMA staff, members, volunteers, committees, speakers, partners, sponsors, vendors and external contractors to manage projects from planning through delivery.

Roles and Responsibilities

Marketing and Communications

  • Lead the development and execution of the IMA’s communications and marketing strategy in support of organizational priorities.
  • Develop and maintain an annual communications plan and content calendar.
  • Manage and maintain the IMA’s website, member portal and digital communication platforms, and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop engaging content for social media and other digital channels to promote IMA programs, events, professional development opportunities and member initiatives.
  • Ensure IMA communications maintain a consistent, professional and recognizable brand across all channels.
  • Lead the production of Insti-News in collaboration with the Communications Services Committee, contributors and external designers.
  • Develop and distribute member communications including e-newsletters, member emails, event promotions, announcements and campaigns.
  • Manage copywriting, design coordination, proofreading, fact-checking, editing and distribution of communications materials.
  • Develop promotional strategies for IMA events, programs, membership initiatives and other organizational priorities.
  • Monitor communications and member engagement and recommend opportunities to improve reach and effectiveness.

Project and Event Management

  • Serve as Project Manager for strategic projects and major IMA initiatives as assigned by the Executive Director or Board of Directors.
  • Support the planning and delivery of the IMA Annual Conference, national virtual events, webinars, professional development initiatives and other programs and events.
  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, deliverables and communications to ensure projects are delivered effectively and on schedule.
  • Coordinate speakers, subject matter experts, partners, sponsors, vendors, volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Support event registration, attendee communications, promotional campaigns, program development and post-event follow-up.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities while identifying risks, challenges and opportunities.

Member and Association Support

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with IMA members, volunteers, committees, District representatives, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Support member engagement initiatives including volunteer recruitment, mentorship, professional development and other member-focused programs.
  • Coordinate communications and collaborative initiatives with partner organizations and professional associations.
  • Support the administration and ongoing improvement of digital platforms used for member communications, events and professional development.
  • Participate in Executive, Board and committee meetings as required and support meeting preparation, follow-up and documentation where appropriate.
  • Stay informed of association management, communications, member engagement and digital marketing best practices.
  • Provide support across IMA operations and undertake other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director.
