POSITION TITLE

Patient Advocacy Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Patient Advocacy Coordinator supports the advancement of the Canadian Breast Cancer Network (CBCN)’s health policy and advocacy profile through the management and implementation of CBCN’s patient advocacy strategy. They will also assist with the extension of the organization’s strategic partnerships and network by engaging with patient advocacy organizations, regulatory authorities, medical partners, and more.

REPORTS TO

Director of Operations

JOB TYPE AND TERM

Part-time, one-year contract position, with a three-month probationary period.

Fully remote.

Position is subject to extension based on funding.

COMPENSATION

A full-time annual salary of $43,000, pro-rated for the part-time hours (22.5 per week) of the position.

START DATE

Until a suitable candidate is found.

POSITION ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Advocacy and Health Policy (80%)

  • Manage the delivery of all advocacy programs and their activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization.
  • Support the development of CBCN’s public policies, research reports, and opportunities to inform health care and breast cancer specific policies.
  • Write all health policy submissions in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization.
  • Write all submissions to health technology agencies for new breast cancer therapy indications.
  • Develop and write all advocacy related resources, including patient facing resources and blog articles.
  • Support individual patient navigation on advocacy and health policy related issues in collaboration with the Director of Patient Education and Engagement.
  • Develop project reporting for leadership team and Board of Directors as needed.

Partnership and Network Support (20%)

  • Maintain strategic partnerships with patient advocacy organizations and health regulatory bodies to further health policy and advocacy agenda.
  • Act as the key liaison between CBCN and partner organization, collaborating on projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Engage with CBCN’s Medical Advisory Board, funders, and other relevant stakeholders on issues as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and strategic partnerships.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant education and/or prior experience in an advocacy and/or health policy related field
  • Knowledge of advocacy strategies and approaches
  • Demonstrated understanding of Canada’s healthcare and health policy environment

ASSETS

  • Ability to speak French
  • Relevant education and/or experience with health technology assessments
  • Prior knowledge of breast cancer
