Role Overview As one of the largest faculty and staff associations in BC, the BCIT Faculty & Staff Association (FSA) is a membership-driven,
certified trade union that represents full-time and part-time technological faculty and staff at the British Columbia Institute
of Technology (BCIT). Through committee representations, negotiations with BCIT, and dedicated advocacy for our
members, we strive to advance the employment interests of our members and improve working conditions across BCIT.
We are hiring a full-time Operations Assistant (OA) for our office at the BCIT Burnaby campus located on unceded Indigenous land belonging to the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the xÊ·mÉθkwÉyÉÌm (Musqueam), SkwxwuÌ7mesh (Squamish), and sÉlilwÉtaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
The OA reports to the Associate Executive Director and works as part of the FSA office team by following or developing policies, procedures, routines, and directions. The OA maintains routine administrative systems across the association’s operations and provides support to other functions, including:
• reception
• records maintenance
• organizing and retrieving information
• preparation of documents
• financial administration
• event and meeting co-ordination
• supplies and equipment management
• logistics and material distribution
• coordinating of facilities maintenance
The OA is expected to represent the union in a welcoming manner to members, representatives of the employer,
community members, and service providers through reception services, assistance with communications and events, and
ensuring our information and materials are well organized and accessible.
The OA may be responsible for setting up and tearing down events; this often includes transporting materials of up to
40lbs using a cart/dolly.
Qualities We’re Looking For
• Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
• Demonstrates problem-solving ability and independent thinking
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Comfortable using accounting software such as QuickBooks with an understanding of basic accounting (AP/AR)
processes
• Skilled in navigating digital and print records, and databases
• Accurate and efficient keyboarding and proofreading
• Effective written and verbal communicator
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
• Capable of managing shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Follows procedures and directions while showing initiative
• Works collaboratively and cooperatively with others
• Understanding of, and commitment to, trade union principles and public, post-secondary institutions
What We Offer The salary for the position is between $66,559.90 and $70,259.80 with placement based on experience.
