Fundraising Consultant

Neighbourhood Information Post (NIP) is a growing community-based organization serving residents in Toronto’s Downtown East communities. With approximately 40 staff, NIP provides a range of programs and services focused on housing stability, financial security and community connections.

As NIP continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Fundraising Consultant to help us assess our current fundraising capacity, develop a practical fundraising strategy, and build a strong foundation for long-term fundraising.

Responsibilities

Working with the Executive Director and Fundraising Sub-Committee, the consultant will:

• Assess NIP’s current fundraising needs, resources, capacity and readiness;
• Identify the types of fundraising that are most appropriate for an organization of NIP’s size, mandate and stage of development;
• Develop a practical three-year fundraising strategy and a 12-month action plan to get NIP started;
• Identify potential funding and donor opportunities, including foundations, corporations and individual donors;
• Recommend the fundraising systems, processes, tools and resources NIP needs to support its fundraising efforts;
• Help develop NIP’s basic fundraising materials;
• Recommend the roles of the Executive Director, staff and Board in fundraising and provide appropriate guidance, coaching and training;
• Provide advice on building relationships with potential donors and funders, including initial outreach and cultivation; and
• Recommend the longer-term fundraising capacity

The consultant will also provide recommendations on NIP’s future fundraising staffing and organizational needs, based on the assessment and strategy developed during the engagement.

Qualifications and Experience The ideal consultant will have:

• Significant experience in nonprofit fundraising/development;
• A demonstrated track record of successful fundraising;
• Experience with foundation, corporate and individual giving, including major gifts;
• Experience helping small or mid-sized organizations develop their fundraising capacity;
• Strong prospect research, relationship-building and communication skills;
• Experience working with Boards and senior leadership; and
• Knowledge of Toronto’s philanthropic and community sector.

Experience working with community-based or social-service organizations is an asset.

Engagement

NIP anticipates an initial 3- to 5-month consulting engagement. Consultants should outline their proposed approach, scope of work, timeline, fee structure and relevant experience in their submission. NIP may, subject to satisfactory performance, consider extending the engagement beyond the initial term to support implementation of the strategy and recommendations developed through this work.
