Sub-Contracted Position | 20-25 hours/week | $35-$40 per hour | 40 weeks per year
The Cowichan Foundation is seeking a motivated and organized Executive Director to lead our small but impactful nonprofit society that has served the Cowichan Valley for over 35 years. This is a sub-contracted, part-time position (20-25 hours/week) that will entail representing the various projects and initiatives of the Foundation, as well as coordinating our popular annual poetry event.

The Cowichan Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports its community in many ways, including several bursaries. We are focused on supporting arts and culture in the Cowichan Valley.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the operations of the organization, including administrative management, board and committee support, event coordination, fundraising, and communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee office operations and administrative tasks.
- Prepare for and attend Board and committee meetings; take and distribute minutes.
- Plan and coordinate fundraising events, community programs, and organizational activities.
- Research funding opportunities and write grant applications and reports.
- Manage and update the organization's website and social media accounts.
- Maintain organizational records, correspondence, and files.
- Support financial administration in coordination with the Treasurer/bookkeeper (e.g., deposits, invoicing).
- Act as the primary point of contact for members, partners, and the public.
Qualifications
- Nonprofit sector experience essential.
- Demonstrated experience writing successful grant applications.
- Proven experience in an office administration or coordinator role.
- Experience managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, email, virtual meeting platforms).
- Experience planning and coordinating events.
- Experience updating and maintaining a website (WordPress or similar preferred).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
