About ProAction Cops & Kids
ProAction Cops & Kids is a charitable organization that raises funds to support police-led programs for vulnerable, under-resourced youth. At ProAction, we bring cops and kids together in skill-building and mentoring programs to create trust, respect, and safer communities. By funding programs that bring cops and kids together, we help create an environment that promotes mutual understanding and respect and establishes positive relationships that strengthen our community today and for the future.
ProAction established its first chapter in Toronto in 1991 and since this time has opened new chapters in Durham Region (2007), Hamilton (2008), Halton Region (2018), Peel Region (2021) and London (2024) with plans for further expansion. Over the past 35 years, ProAction has distributed over 10.7 million dollars to support 2,800 police-led youth programs engaging close to 455,000 young people across all our chapters.

ProAction’s Durham Region Council is searching for new members to help support local activities and build a safer Durham Region.
Responsibilities of a Durham Council member are as follows:

- Raise funds to support Durham Chapter operations and grants for police led youth programs. The fundraising goal for a ProAction Council Member is $5,000.
- Champion ProAction to colleagues and identify contacts who could become potential donors, supporters and volunteers.
- Volunteer the equivalent of up to one day per month to support ProAction activities including attending Council and Committee meetings and fundraising outreach.
- Serve on at least one committee such as Appeals, Events or Grants Committee.
- Chair at least one activity or fundraising event during the member’s term. Council Members are appointed for a term of three years with the option to renew the appointment.
- Liaise with the Durham Regional Police Service to develop a clear understanding of youth and policing needs that may be addressed by ProAction programs.
- Support activities that develop positive relationships between youth and police officers.
- Members are encouraged to participate in program visits to experience first-hand the impact and benefits that ProAction programs have on cops, kids and the community.
