Brain Injury Canada is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of part-time Content Writer. The Content Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and revising engaging, evidence-informed educational content for online learning programs focused on health-related topics. Working closely with subject matter experts, instructional designers, researchers, and people with lived experience, the Content Writer translates complex clinical and scientific information into accessible, learner-centred content that supports knowledge translation and practical application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research current evidence, clinical guidelines, and best practices related to assigned health topics.
  • Develop clear, accurate, and engaging content for asynchronous online learning modules.
  • Write learning objectives, lesson content, case studies, quizzes, knowledge assessments, reflective activities, downloadable resources, and learner summaries.
  • Adapt technical and clinical information for diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals, frontline service providers, community organizations, caregivers, and people with lived experience.
  • Ensure content reflects principles of adult learning, accessibility, health literacy, cultural safety, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Incorporate practical examples, real-world scenarios, and evidence-informed strategies that support workplace application.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, including individuals and families with lived experience to validate content and ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Revise materials based on peer review, stakeholder feedback, and evaluation findings.
  • Ensure all content aligns with organizational style guides, branding, copyright requirements, and accessibility standards.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary graduate in communications, journalism or a similar field preferred
  • 3+ years of communications and copywriting experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English is essential. Fluency in French would be an asset
  • Demonstrated experience writing educational or knowledge translation materials for health-related audiences.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and plain language communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize scientific literature into practical, learner-friendly resources.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and subject matter experts.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and online education.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, inclusive communication, and health literacy principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing content for online learning or learning management systems (LMS).
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles.
  • Experience working with people with lived experience and co-design approaches.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed, culturally safe, and person-centred approaches to education.
  • Experience in areas such as brain injury, disability, rehabilitation, mental health, public health, community health and correction/legal system is considered an asset.

Contract details
