About PAN

PAN is a provincial network of more than 40 community-based organizations across British Columbia working in HIV, viral hepatitis, and harm reduction. PAN supports a strong, connected, and informed network through capacity building, knowledge mobilization, collaboration, education, research, evaluation, and advocacy.

PAN's Capacity Building department works alongside our member organizations, people with lived and/or living experience(s), health authority representatives, researchers, academics, and other community partners to strengthen knowledge, skills, resources, and connections across BC. Our work includes developing accessible learning resources, delivering virtual and in-person learning opportunities, supporting PAN's online learning platform Knowledge Connect, and translating research and public health information into practical tools for community.

The Opportunity

PAN is seeking an experienced Communications & Capacity Building Coordinator to provide part-time independent contract support to our Capacity Building department from November 2026 through March 2027.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of communications, knowledge mobilization, adult learning, and community-based capacity building. The successful contractor will help PAN communicate our work effectively while supporting the development and delivery of learning opportunities and resources for our member organizations, allies, and community members across British Columbia.

The role will involve a combination of communications coordination, content development, event and learning support.. The successful candidate will be comfortable taking initiative, managing multiple priorities, and working collaboratively with PAN staff and community partners.

Key Responsibilities

Communications & Knowledge Mobilization

  • Develop and adapt communications materials that promote PAN's activities, resources, events, and learning opportunities.
  • Draft and edit newsletters, email communications, website content, promotional materials, and/or other communications.
  • Support the development of plain-language resources, including fact sheets, infographics, learning materials, and other knowledge mobilization products.
  • Help ensure communications are accessible, inclusive, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and responsive to the diverse member organizations and communities PAN serves.

Capacity Building & Learning Support

  • Support the planning, coordination, promotion, and delivery of virtual and in-person events, webinars, training, and other capacity-building activities.
  • Assist with the development and updating of learning materials, presentations, facilitator resources, and participant resources.
  • Support participant communications, registration, logistics, follow-up, and evaluation for capacity-building activities.

Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for someone with a combination of communications, knowledge mobilization, education, community engagement, and/or public health experience.

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience developing clear, engaging, and accessible written communications for diverse audiences.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and plain-language communication skills.
  • Strong digital and technology skills, including confidence working across common online collaboration, communications, and content creation platforms including Microsoft 365, Zoom, Canva, and web-based learning or content management platforms
  • Ability to take complex information and translate it into practical, accessible content.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of colleagues, people with lived and/or living experience(s), member organizations, and community partners.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Comfort working independently in a remote environment and proactively communicating about progress, priorities, and challenges.

Assets:

  • Experience in public health, health promotion, community-based organizations, HIV, viral hepatitis, STBBIs, harm reduction, sexual health, substance use, or related fields.
  • Experience with knowledge translation or knowledge mobilization.
  • Experience developing adult learning or educational resources.
  • Experience supporting virtual or in-person workshops, webinars, or training.
  • Experience with online learning platforms or learning management systems.
  • Experience with digital communications, social media, email marketing, or website content management.
  • Experience working with people with lived and/or living experience and/or community-based organizations.
  • Familiarity with principles of health equity, accessibility, trauma-informed practice, and community engagement.

  • Rate: $30–$40 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications
  • Location: Remote, with occasional opportunities or requirements to participate in in-person meetings or events in British Columbia

The independent contractor will be responsible for independently managing their schedule and determining their hours of work and providing their own equipment and resources. These arrangements will be coordinated in consultation with the PAN Capacity Building team. The independent contractor will be expected to meet agreed-upon deliverables and timelines as required.
