
Campaign & Communications Officer
Summary of Work
The Campaign & Communications Officer uses their passion for public health care,
knowledge of volunteer recruitment and mobilisation, and communications creativity to
â—Ź Organize events
â—Ź Engage members, member organizations, and the public in campaigns that
improve public health care in BC
â—Ź Increase public support for universal access to public health care
Working within the mandate set by the Steering Committee and overseen by the
Executive Director, the Campaign & Communications Officer will develop campaigns that promote and celebrate the benefits of public health care and demonstrate the negative consequences of for-profit privatized health care.
This position reports to the Executive Director.
Salary and Hours
This position is 30 hours per week and member of the BC Union Workers’ Union.
Compensation is $48.37/hour plus benefits and pension contributions as set out in the collective agreement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Campaign & Communications Officer will:
Build the collective power of the BC Health Coalition around the province by bringing together members, member organizations, and the public through a variety of means, such as general and regional meetings, project teams, and public events designed to amplify a wide range of voices in support of public healthcare;
Produce high quality written, visual, and/or multi-media materials including member
newsletters, website updates, social media content, campaign documents, and news releases that engage and educate the public;
Working with the ED, provide training, capacity building, and leadership opportunities to support the skills development of individual and organizational coalition members;
Support the coordination of fundraising campaigns, including digital activities;
Stay informed of key developments in health policy and gather relevant news and
research for coalition information, discussion, and potential policy development.
Qualifications
A minimum of 3 years experience working with community or not-for-profit
organizations, labour, or in a political capacity.
A demonstrated passion for public health care, social services, and community
organizing.
Experience/awareness and critical analysis of the public health care system and/or
issues related to privatization of healthcare and the social determinants of health is an asset.
Ideally, the candidate will have experience in a coalition environment.
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to principles and practices in advancing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
Excellent teamwork skills and ability to be self-directed and self-motivated when leading projects independently, as well as the ability to communicate and collaborate in a respectful and cooperative manner with the public, coalition members, and staff.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to
understand and write for different audiences and formats as required.
Experience using NationBuilder or customer relationship management software.
