The Surety Association of Canada (SAC) is the national trade advocacy association that represents the interests of the surety industry across Canada. Our members represent more than 99.2% of all surety premiums written in Canada and consist of primary surety firms, surety reinsurers, surety/insurance brokers, and other organizations that provide related and complementary services to the surety industry such as legal firms and consultants.
Job Description:
We are looking for part-time Bookkeeper who will be responsible for recording daily transactions, reconciling accounts, and keeping financial records organized for the association. The candidate must have excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to spotting and resolving discrepancies.
This position will be one to two days per week (7 to 14 hours) anytime Monday to Friday during regular business hours (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.).
Responsibilities will include:
- Create and send invoices for membership, events, courses, etc.
- Oversee accounts receivable (collections) and accounts payable (cheque preparation), ensuring timely collections and payments
- Preparation of bank deposits
- Reconciliation of monthly bank, credit card and investment statements
- Maintain organized customer and vendor files (digital and paper records)
- Post journal entries, adjusting entries, and maintain supporting documentation, as required
- Generate reports (i.e., balance sheet, profit & loss, etc.) to share with President/COO and VP, Operations
- Provide support with the association’s annual audit (June year-end)
- Note: payroll services would not be required as this is managed by the VP, Operations.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper in a small office environment. Experience in a non-profit trade advocacy organization would be preferred but is not essential.
- 3 to 5 years of bookkeeping experience.
- Proficiency in small business accounting systems, specifically with QuickBooks® Desktop is a must.
- Proficiency in MS Office (i.e., MS Excel, MS Word, etc.).
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
