Board of Director

BOARD MEMBER (VOLUNTEER)

About Us

Established in 1966, SPARC BC’s mission is to work with communities to build a more just and healthy society for all. Our mission and values are guided by the desire for a just and healthy society based on five key principles: equity, social inclusion, security, adaptability, and equality.

The Opportunity

SPARC BC is seeking applicants for our volunteer board of directors. Those with skills, interest, or experience in the governance of SPARC BC are encouraged to apply for an open role. These are volunteer positions that provide the opportunity to make meaningful contributions that support SPARC BC’s mission, while connecting board members to a network of like-minded individuals serving a common goal. We are recruiting board members from all areas of BC.

Volunteer Roles Available

The following roles are available: Directors at Large (2) and a Treasurer.

Commitment

  • Three-year term (renewable).
  • Dedication to our mission of working with communities to build a more just and healthy society for all.
  • Regular attendance at our quarterly board meetings. All meetings are held in-person at the SPARC BC office in Burnaby, with the option to attend remotely. Accommodation, travel, meals, and incidentals are provided by SPARC BC for those who attend in-person from outside the lower mainland.
  • Attendance at our Annual General Meeting.
  • Participation on one board committee (Nominations, Governance, or Finance). Committee meetings are typically conducted virtually and meet on an as-needed basis (often quarterly, sometimes more frequently depending on the work that needs to be undertaken).
  • The expected time commitment for directors at large is 6-8 hours per quarter, with greater commitments required for executive positions (ie: Treasurer).

Lived experience with disability is an asset. Non-profit board experience is an asset.
