
Advocacy Volunteer
Advocacy Position Overview
Advocacy volunteers are dedicated voices for the six million people in Canada living with arthritis. They help raise awareness and promote understanding by supporting public education efforts, sharing arthritis-related messages through social media, writing letters, connecting with community leaders, and taking part in consultations or other important calls to action that support people affected by arthritis.
Time Commitment
Advocacy volunteers typically contribute 1–2 hours per month.
This is a flexible role with no fixed schedule.
Volunteer engagement may vary depending on awareness activities or campaign needs throughout the year.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Work with Arthritis Society Canada to amplify campaigns that support those affected by arthritis
Use online tools and platforms to reach community groups, healthcare professionals, and the general public
Attend public events to help increase understanding of arthritis and its impact
Join local or national patient groups to support shared awareness efforts
Contribute to letter-writing initiatives, social media outreach, and community consultations
Desired Skills & Attributes
Passionate about improving the lives of individuals affected by arthritis
Strong interest in health advocacy, community engagement, or public awareness
Comfortable using email and social media platforms to take action
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and respond to time-sensitive awareness opportunities
Lived experience with arthritis or a connection to someone affected is an asset
Availability & Working Environment
Advocacy roles are available across Canada at both local and national levels.
This is primarily a remote opportunity, with occasional in-person options. Volunteers can participate from anywhere in Canada with reliable internet access.
Major Contacts
Volunteers will be supported by an Arthritis Society Canada staff member.
They may interact with fellow volunteers, healthcare professionals, community groups, and members of the public.
Working Environment
This position is remote with occasional in-person opportunities for those interested. Volunteers can contribute from any location with internet access.
