The Human Rights Legal Support Centre (HRLSC) provides free legal assistance to individuals throughout Ontario who have experienced discrimination contrary to Ontario’s Human Rights Code. The HRLSC is seeking applications for two (2) Human Rights Advisors (HRA) to provide legal information and summary advice over the telephone to individuals who have experienced discrimination and need assistance in filing an application with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO).
Qualifications include the ability to interpret and communicate Ontario human rights legislation (Human Rights Code) and/or other social justice legislation such as employment standards, landlord/tenant and workers’ compensation, and the ability to record detailed information and prepare summaries in a high paced environment. The successful applicant will have knowledge of community resources, the ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with diverse communities and will have sound interviewing, listening, explaining and counseling / representation skills. Computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Outlook and experience using a case management or data base system are required.
These are full-time, contract opportunities to fill temporary vacancies, with the possibility of extension. One contract term is until August 2027, while the other is until September 2027. There may also be additional HRA opportunities. These positions report to the Manager of Intake Services, are part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit and are not open to lawyers. They offer a hybrid work schedule, requiring a combination of in-person work from the HRLSC’s Toronto head office and remote work from home, each week. This arrangement may be subject to change as part of the HRLSC’s Recovery Plan process. The HRLSC provides a competitive total compensation package. The salary range for these positions is $51,531.93 - $64,414.92. The usual hours of work are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
