midwives and Aboriginal midwives

ministries, the Indigenous midwifery team, and Indigenous and Aboriginal midwives 
in Ontario 

 • Assists the Manager, Indigenous Midwifery and Director, Indigenous Midwifery, in 
developing annual plans for work groups/committees and ensures that deliverables 
are met 

Policy Analysis 

 • Serves as staff lead on a portfolio of policy topics, responding to developments and 
initiating work on any of those topics as the need arises 

 • Undertakes research and provides summaries on key issues and policy directives to 
the Manager and Director 

 • Prepares policy papers, briefing notes, background summaries, presentations and 
recommendations on key policy issues impacting Indigenous midwifery and the 
AOM 

 • Contributes to the analysis of policy issues within a context of equity, diversity,

 • Assists the management team to develop strategic approaches to AOM grant 

proposals, research papers and position papers submitted to the government and 
outside bodies including rights holders 

 • Keeps current on key issues affecting AOM regarding Indigenous midwifery at the 
international, national and provincial levels 

 • Proactively identifies key issues that may impact the profession and the AOM with 
respect to Indigenous midwifery, and provides briefing notes as required on these 
issues 

 • Supports committees/work groups/task forces as assigned by the Director 
 • Monitors and updates the AOM website in relation to the Indigenous midwifery area 

and related communications areas 
 • Submits articles for AOM publications including electronic media 
 
 
Cross Departmental work 

 • Works collaboratively with AOM Board and staff to support work involving Indigenous 
midwives including: 

 • Works collaboratively with the Clinical Practice Guidelines team to ensure existing and 
new CPGs and knowledge translation materials are culturally appropriate for Indigenous 
midwives and communities 

 • Works collaboratively with the Membership department to ensure communications to 
Aboriginal midwives and Indigenous midwives are supported as required 

 • Works collaboratively as required with the AOM’s Communications team on the 
development of educational materials, presentations, and the online and social media 
presence of Indigenous midwifery work at the AOM 

 • Works with the AOM’s Communications team to develop key messaging and 
communications plans for a range of policy initiatives as required and to support the work 
of the Outreach and Community Engagement Specialist, Indigenous Midwifery 

 • Works with the AOM’s Policy team on intersecting issues that affect Indigenous, rural and 
remote communities

This role also involves providing immediate crisis intervention, safety risk assessments, planning, and activating emergency safety supports and devices.&nbsp;ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSDirect Service Responsibility:<ul><li>Provide safety assessments and advocate on behalf of victims during the bail hearing process.</li><li>Work from a client centered, trauma informed, harm reduction, and anti – oppressive frameworks.</li><li>Provide court support to victims of crime at bail hearings virtually or in person when requested.</li><li>Collaborate with court officials (e.g. crown attorney, Bail Vetter, Justice of the Peace, Judge etc.)</li><li>Document the outcome of Bail Hearings.</li><li>Provide timely bail court notifications alongside the Crisis Response Program.</li><li>Assess the critical safety and care needs as well as VQRP+ eligibility for clients immediately following their victimization.</li><li>Activate and provide all eligible emergency VQRP+ services such as urgent accommodation, lock changes, safety devices, necessities, and transportation etc.</li><li>Conduct individualized safety planning with persons who have been victimized through crime.</li><li>Facilitate linkages to the Safe Centre of Peel, nCourage Hub and/or internal VSOP Case Management Programs such as the South Asian Family Enrichment Program, VQRP+ High Risk Supports, Sexual Assault/AHT Programs, CARE, Transitional Housing Support Program or other external community services, dependent on the client’s needs and consent.</li><li>Respond to crisis situations and requests from Peel Regional Police and other community services for victim assistance when VSOP crisis counsellors are unavailable, or when Crisis Counsellors require additional support.</li><li>Maintain confidential client files and document client case notes within the VSOP database. </li><li>Discuss with individuals and families the effects of the cycle of violence and the effects of violence on children, along with other relevant VAW (Violence Against Women) information.</li><li>Cover vacant (sick and vacation) Crisis Response Program shifts</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Education and Training Responsibilities:<ul><li>On-board and support volunteers in the program.</li><li>On-board, support, and mentor student placements in the program.</li><li>Attend and present at periodic community events including but not limited to those geared towards youth, training of new police recruits &amp;
