Volunteer Opportunity: Friendly Visitor – Seniors Program

Mishka Social Services is seeking compassionate and dependable volunteers to participate in our Friendly Visiting Program for seniors living in long-term care and retirement homes across the Niagara Region.
Many older adults experience loneliness and social isolation. By spending time with a senior through conversation and companionship, you can make a meaningful impact on their well-being and brighten their day.
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Visit seniors at designated long-term care or retirement homes.
- Engage in friendly conversation and active listening.
- Participate in activities such as board games, puzzles, reading, arts and crafts, or walks (where permitted).
- Help create a welcoming and enjoyable social environment.
- Treat all residents with dignity, respect, and compassion.
- Follow the policies and procedures of both Mishka Social Services and the care home.
Qualifications
- Friendly, patient, and compassionate.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliable and committed to scheduled visits.
- Experience working with seniors is an asset but not required.
- Must be able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (or be willing to obtain one if required).

Training & Support
Volunteers will receive an orientation and ongoing support from the Mishka Social Services team before beginning their placement.
