About Planet Watch

Planet Watch is a volunteer-run climate change organization. We are based in Canada, but have volunteers from all over the world. Our goal is to cultivate a living ecosystem of climate education, storytelling, and community engagement — connecting young people, educators, volunteers, and advocates around the world through our educational products. We aspire to grow the network of people who understand the climate crisis deeply, care about it personally, and are ready to act — locally, nationally, and globally.

The Role

Lead the creative direction of Planet Watch’s monthly newsletter — shaping its voice, content, and impact. You’ll choose themes, source articles and authors, edit submissions, coordinate with our design and distribution volunteers, and contribute your own writing. In the short term, you’ll also help expand circulation and strengthen our reach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the newsletter team to produce our monthly newsletter.
  • Lead the team in the creation of special topic issues
  • Work with existing volunteer writers and recruit additional ones to produce original articles for the newsletter, from 300-400 words each
  • Write editorial comments and updates from Planet Watch
  • Read, research, fact-check, and edit all newsletter content
  • Work with our layout designer to produce the final version for publication
  • Manage email subscriber list and develop ways to increase readership and improve quality

Ideal For

A creative communicator who enjoys shaping stories, working with writers, and inspiring climate action through accessible, engaging content.

Experience

  • 4-5 years in writing, editing, communications, or journalism
  • Experience with nonprofit or environmental work is an asset
