This means seniors can obtain vital medical care, pick up groceries and supplies, attend recreation programs, socialize with loved ones, attend community events, and do all the things they need to live well. It also means that caregivers receive a much-needed break. Volunteering with Drive Happiness has definite perks. You choose when and where you drive, and there is no minimum/ maximum requirement so volunteering is convenient for you. You also receive a fuel reimbursement. VOLUNTEER POSITION: Crew Leader - Build Site

Peer Support Volunteer Purpose of Position: Peer support volunteers provide support to Wellspring members by offering information based on their own “lived” experience as a cancer survivor or as a caregiver. They also provide information about programs and services offered by Wellspring and resources in the greater cancer community. As the point-of-entry to Wellspring, peer support volunteers guide in the selection of programs based on a combination of the needs, interest, time, and energy of the member. Through check-in phone calls peer support volunteers assist Wellspring members in finding appropriate programming and, ultimately, to transition into community programming when they are ready to step away from Wellspring. Responsibilities: • Provide a warm and reassuring welcome to our members. • Provide confidential emotional and support to patients or their family members. • Listen in an empathetic manner to the members’ circumstances and experiences with cancer. • Help normalize feelings and experiences through reassurance and sharing information about common responses to the diagnosis of cancer. • Share information about their own lived experience when appropriate. • Offer tips and strategies related to their lived cancer journey as a point of reference but, not prescriptive in nature. This may include scheduling daily activities to best manage fatigue, or ways to prepare or serve foods to help maximize nutrition intake during treatment. • Share information of Wellspring’s programs and services. • Using the navigation tools, guide the new member in the selection of programs based on a combination of the needs, interest, time, and energy. • Assist members in registering for programs or accessing services via our on-line registration system. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: • Must be 18 years of age or older. • Have a lived experience as a cancer patient or the caregiver of a cancer patient. • Be post-treatment and no longer using Wellspring programs for their cancer support needs. • Complete the Wellspring volunteer onboarding process, which includes: o Interview o Reference check o Police record check, including vulnerable sector (Wellspring to reimburse cost incurred) Training requirements: • Completion of peer support training sessions (including in-home and online facilitated learning). • Online Wellspring orientation. • Completions of three buddy shifts. • Attend bi-monthly peer support meetings. • Ongoing in-service training as offered. Wellspring Alberta is building a team of passionate community connector volunteers to help raise awareness of Wellspring throughout Alberta with the goal of building localized cancer support communities, so that no one in Alberta has to face cancer alone. Community Connectors are the voice of their local communities, and are responsible for building relationships, as well as providing ideas, feedback, and recommendations to Wellspring to help further support individuals and their families who are living with the impact of a cancer diagnosis. Responsibilities: • Be an ambassador for Wellspring Alberta by sharing Wellspring’s mission, vision, programs, and services within your community. • Build awareness of Wellspring in your community by distributing brochures and posters, attending information booths, delivering presentations, and talking to healthcare providers and community members. • Assist patients, Canadaregivers, and family members in registering as a Wellspring member and into programs. • Conduct new member welcome calls and support people in accessing resources within Wellspring and the greater cancer community. • Help build local connections and relationships on behalf ofWellspring to assist with building localized cancer support communities. • Support Wellspring programs online and/or in-person. • Liaise with Wellspring team lead to pass on identified gaps, opportunities, ideas and needs on behalf of the local community. • Assist with identifying local support services that should be added to our Wellspring additional resource page • Complete Wellspring admin processes as necessary. • Attend community connector meetings (held via zoom every 2 weeks) – required. • Attend peer support meetings (held every 2 weeks) – optional; for additional learning and training. • This volunteer position is not responsible for leading Wellspring programs. Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care is one of Canada’s largest and most respected not-for-

profit organizations providing culturally appropriate, person-centred care for seniors. Since its 

founding in 1994, Yee Hong has delivered a full continuum of services to over 15,000 seniors 

annually across the Greater Toronto Area, from active seniors’ programs and home support to 

long-term care and palliative care. Rooted in a vision of enabling seniors to live their lives to the 

fullest, with independence, health and dignity, Yee Hong blends clinical excellence with cultural 

humility and innovation. With deep expertise serving Asian Canadian communities, including 

Chinese, Japanese, South Asian and Filipino seniors, Yee Hong continues to evolve as a leader

Yee Hong is currently inviting nominations and applications for the role of Board Director. This 

is an exciting opportunity for values-driven leaders to contribute to an award-winning 

organization entering a period of meaningful expansion, including the opening of its fifth long-

term care home in 2026. 

Director Responsibilities 

Board members contribute their leadership across three core areas of governance: 

1. Strategy - Shape and approve Yee Hong’s multi-year strategic plans; Guide major initiatives 

such as digital innovation, philanthropic growth, capital development (e.g., Finch II), and care 

model advancement; Strengthen partnerships and system integration to expand Yee Hong’s 

impact across the continuum of care; Support CEO oversight, performance evaluation, and 

succession planning. 

2. Culture - Champion Yee Hong’s values of caring, collaboration, and commitment in all 

Board deliberations; Promote culturally appropriate, person-centred, and spiritually attuned care 

that reflects the lived experiences of seniors and their families; Actively foster an inclusive 

governance culture that centres equity, diversity, reconciliation, and accessibility; Engage 

with stakeholders in a spirit of curiosity, humility, and service. 

3. Risk - Ensure fiduciary responsibility and long-term financial sustainability; Oversee 

enterprise risk management, including compliance, quality of care, workforce capacity, and 

infrastructure investment; Provide governance leadership on emerging risks tied to aging

demographics, workforce shortages, regulatory change, and capital expansion; Serve on at

Qualifications 

Among the qualifications being sought in candidates, the incoming leader must have a deep and 

abiding commitment to advancing reconciliation, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in 

all its forms and must believe, intrinsically, in the importance of leading with curiosity and 

welcoming ideas that can later be synthesized and turned into possibility. While all candidates 

are encouraged to apply and, in so doing, share how they see themselves adding value to the 

Yee Hong environment, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible 

markers of the candidates most likely to realize success in the role: 

 • A passion for enabling seniors to age with dignity, inclusion, and purpose across a full 

continuum of culturally appropriate care; 

 • Strong experience in government relations, public policy, or partnership 

development, especially within health, housing, or social services sectors, to help 

advance Yee Hong’s role as a system partner and sector leader; 

 • Lived or professional experience in aging, health care, senior services, or system 

integration; 

 • Expertise in any of the following: governance, finance, law, clinical quality, risk 

management, advocacy, digital innovation, or capital development; 

 • A collaborative leadership style rooted in cultural humility, curiosity, and a deep respect 

for equity, diversity, and inclusion. 

Time Commitment 

Board Directors serve a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional 

terms. The Board meets six to nine times per year (2–3 hours per meeting), and members are 

expected to serve on at least one committee (quarterly meetings). Participation in an annual 

orientation and a full-day strategic retreat is required. Special meetings may be called as 

needed.
