The Infant Hearing Screener will plan and implement community-based screening services and support client monitoring and follow-up.This an unique work opportunity where you get to be part of an exclusive group of professionals and have access to a comprehensive on-the-job training to gain this specialized skill.This position will serve families at various locations throughout the City of Ottawa, with primary focus on the Central-to-East end of the City.On-the-job Training: We provide comprehensive on-the-job training to gain necessary skills and aptitude required to be successful in this position.This is an ideal role for you if:<ul>	<li>You're comfortable working with infants</li>	<li>You have an appetite for learning new skills</li>	<li>You're comfortable having sensitive conversations with parents</li>	<li>You're bilingual (English and French)</li>	<li>You have post-secondary education in hearing health, communicative disorders, early childhood education, human services, health care or rehabilitation services</li>	<li>You appreciate consistent service delivery and protocol driven environment</li>	<li>You enjoy variety in your work environments and have interest in learning about different communities throughout the City</li></ul>Job Specific Responsibilities<ul>	<li>Works with the Team Lead for Specialized Preschool Programs to provide community-based hearing screening.&nbsp;</li>	<li>Conducts newborn hearing screening using Automated Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (ADPOAE) and Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR)</li>	<li>Adheres to protocols and maintains hearing screening performance standards set by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS).</li>	<li>Follows pre-determined scripts with respect to the following: explanation of types of screenings, obtaining and recording of explicit and informed consent, informing parents of privacy rights and the collection/use of their personal health information, explaining screening outcomes/results and follow-up.</li>	<li>Establishes good rapport with families and answers parents’ questions and concerns in a clear, patient, and professional manner and ensures thorough understanding on the part of the parent/legal guardian.</li>	<li>Communicates sensitive information to families. Provides information to parents regarding results of screening and further steps as recommended.</li>	<li>Recognizes professional boundaries and scope of practice, routing families to appropriate resources, as necessary.</li>	<li>Ensures accuracy in form completion, and the updating of electronic records and referrals as part of IHP’s collaboration with Newborn Screening Ontario (NSO).</li>	<li>Organizes and manages treatment space and inventory of screening materials.</li>	<li>Works closely with community site staff to support clinic scheduling and room booking needs.&nbsp;</li>	<li>Participates in the Infant Hearing Program (IHP) Continued Quality Improvement (CQI) initiative, supporting the evaluation of IHP.&nbsp;</li>	<li>Participates in team meetings, mentors new staff, precepts students and updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.</li>	<li>Performs administrative support to the Infant Hearing Program team and other duties, as assigned, in accordance with professional standards and guidelines.</li></ul>&nbsp;Qualifications:<ul>	<li>Communicative Disorders Assistant certificate or post-graduate program with emphasis on hearing health (e.g. Hearing aid technician) is preferred.&nbsp; Post-secondary degree or diploma with emphasis in health, early childhood or human service curricula will be considered.</li>	<li>Three to five years’ experience working with newborns and infants is an asset.</li>	<li>Aptitude for learning, understanding and following infant hearing screening protocol and operating of hearing testing equipment.&nbsp;</li>	<li>Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, sensitivity to people of different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.&nbsp;</li>	<li>Experience dealing with the public in a mature, helpful and patient manner.&nbsp;</li>	<li>Ability to handle challenging situations with a professional, positive and calm demeanor.</li>	<li>Strong organizational, time management skills and attention to detail.&nbsp;</li>	<li>Experience with Caredove or other referral management systems is an asset</li>	<li>Ability to perform physically and mentally repetitive tasks (standing for long periods of time) essential.</li>	<li>Adaptability and resilience to ongoing changes (stress tolerance) essential.&nbsp;</li>	<li>Ability to analyze and problem solve.&nbsp;</li>	<li>Ability to work independently (essential)</li>	<li>Bilingual (English/French) essential</li>	<li>Access to vehicle essential. The Canadian Mental Health Association, Ottawa Branch (CMHA Ottawa) is a community-based 
non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of individuals living with severe and 
persistent mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Many of the people we serve are also 
experiencing chronic homelessness or are vulnerably housed. Through a range of evidence-
based, recovery-oriented services, we help individuals stabilize, find housing, access healthcare, 
and build the skills and supports they need to thrive.

We are currently seeking a new volunteer director to join our talented and accomplished Board 
of Directors for a three-year term (June 2025 – June 2028). This is a unique opportunity to

 • Not-for-profit organization financial management. 
o Understanding of how a not-for-profit organization funding and financing works. 

 • Financial oversight and risk management. 
o Ability to assess financial health and ensure fiscal responsibility. 


o Strong business acumen and risk management skills 
 • Audit committee or treasurer experience. 

o Prior experience as a treasurer or on a financial/audit committee for a not-for 
profit organization. 

 • Experience serving on the Board of a not-for-profit organization. 
 • Continuous Quality Improvement

 • Consideration given to persons with lived experience or family members of persons with 

lived experience of mental illness. 
 
 
Time Commitment: 
 
The Board of Directors meets nine times per year, typically once a month from 5:00 PM to 8:00 
PM (Ottawa time). Meetings are held in person in Ottawa, with the option to attend virtually if 
necessary. The Board does not meet during the summer months or in December, allowing 
members time to recharge. 
 
In addition to attending Board meetings, members are expected to actively participate on at least 
one of our standing committees. These committees are essential to the organization’s 
governance and strategic direction: 
 

 • Finance Committee – High priority: We are actively seeking individuals with accounting 
or financial expertise. 

 • Strategic Planning Committee – Guides the long-term vision and direction of the 
organization. 

 • Accreditation Committee – Oversees standards and processes related to accreditation. 
 • EIDARR Committee – Focuses on Equity, Inclusion, Diversity, Accessibility, Reconciliation, 

and Representation. 
 • Executive Committee – Comprised of Board officers and key members, this committee 

handles urgent matters between Board meetings and supports overall governance.
