ABOUT US

Rainbow's End is a not-for-profit charity that employs people living with mental illness through a variety of social enterprises across Hamilton and Burlington. We provide on-site training, mentorship, and leadership development, and pay fair, competitive wages so our employees can experience empowerment, inclusion, and dignity.

Today, Rainbow's End employs more than 60 people each year, and we're working to expand into new areas of employment. Our work has been featured on CBC, CHCH, and in the Hamilton Spectator. We are supported by St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and have been awarded funding and support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, ArcelorMittal Dofasco, Bell Let's Talk, and the McMaster Students Union.

OUR VISION

Opportunity where there was no opportunity.

“Everybody around the table is capable, willing, interested, and passionate to take Rainbow's End to new heights.”— Christopher Yendt, former Chair, Rainbow's End Board of Directors

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking motivated, skilled individuals to join our Volunteer Board of Directors. As a board member, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on governance experience, build your professional network alongside other community leaders, and use your personal or professional skills for a cause you care about. You will be making a tangible difference in the lives of people living with mental illness in Hamilton and Burlington.

We welcome local and remote applicants from all backgrounds, and we're especially interested in candidates with experience in:

  • Legal / Law
  • Human Resources / Risk Management
  • Fundraising / Advocacy
  • Finance / Accounting
  • Marketing / Social Media

We also welcome individuals with broader leadership experience at the Board or Committee level.

Rainbow's End is committed to increasing diversity in positions of influence. We encourage applications from people with lived experience of mental illness and/or addiction; people of all genders and ages; immigrant, refugee, ethno-cultural, and racialized communities; Two-Spirit and LGBTQ+ communities; and people with disabilities.

TIME COMMITMENT

Board members commit to serve for a 2-year term, renewable to a maximum of 6 years, and can expect to contribute approximately 5 hours per month, including one Board meeting and active participation on at least one committee. The Board typically meets and collaborates remotely.

HOW TO APPLY

Send your resume and a cover letter explaining why you'd like to join the Board and how your experience fits our needs to David Williams, Executive Director, at David@rainbowsend.com with the subject line “Board Recruitment.”

Candidates whose skills best match our needs will be invited to meet with current Board members and staff. We thank all applicants for their interest; due to volume, we're not able to follow up with everyone.
