Reports To:&nbsp;Community Wellness Program Program Description: Meals-on-Wheels is primarily a nutrition program with therapeutic, preventative and social components. The service involves the safe and efficient delivery of hot and frozen meals to persons who are unable to attend to their own nutritional needs. These clients include the elderly, disabled, chronically ill and/or convalescent. Referrals to other services, safety checks and friendly contacts are desirable components of the program. Meals are delivered by volunteers and when volunteers are not available, staff assistant. The program also aims to enable clients to access nutritious, affordable food via food related programming such as holding Farmer’s markets, market excursions, food-related community events. Position Summary: Under the supervision of the supervisor or designate, the Farmer’s Market assistant will be responsible for the setup of tables and selling of produce at the designated Farmer’s market site. The volunteer will serve customers by helping to bag purchases and tallying individual orders, making change from a cashbox supplied by the program and finally disassembling and cleaning up the market site. The market volunteer assistant must have the physical capacity to for lifting up to 30lbs and setting up lightweight tables. Quality, Health &amp; Safety/Risk Management: In order to reduce risk to clients, employees, volunteers and the agency, SPRINT Senior Care expects that all employees and volunteers will work within the mandate of their job description, and abide by the policies and procedures of the agency. Meals on Wheels Volunteer Drivers

Meals on Wheels is a non profit service, providing hot meals to seniors in our community Monday-Friday. Meals are prepared at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization, divided into routes and are ready for pick-up by volunteer drivers by 10am. Routes are typically completed by 12pm or earlier.Scheduling can be flexible and both committed drivers (weekly) or casual drivers (1-2 times a month) are encouraged to apply.Volunteers are required to use their personal vehicle, have a valid drivers license, liability insurance, and have the ability to walk, climb stairs, and carry a grocery bag. &nbsp;Learn practical skills, teamwork, and socialize with our community members who may be isolated in their homes.We can write reference letters for our volunteers when needed, track hours your for LSCO membership discounts, and have complimentary coffee/tea at our Diner.Income tax receipts are given for mileage. This donation tax receipt helps to off set the costs associated with operating your vehicle while volunteering with us.

The Kitchen Animator will support our Kitchen Coordinator and will co-facilitate kitchen programs that teach young people how to prepare nutritious food on a budget through hands-on cooking demonstrations, tips, techniques, recipes and meal-preparation strategies.&nbsp;The Kitchen Animator will also support food planning, inventory, and preparation.RESPONSIBILITIES<ul><li>Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and dining space </li><li>Develop snack plans and shopping lists</li><li>Prepare and set up snacks in the kitchen for programs</li><li>Prepare food packages for people to take home and place them in the Cafe space.</li><li>Sort, clean and organize the food received by food donors and vendors </li><li>Manage food inventories</li><li>Employ high standard of food safety practices and handling; ensure Toronto Public Health guidelines are maintained or exceeded </li><li>Support the development of a cooking class curriculum, incorporating young adult’s input and feedback </li><li>Support teaching cooking classes to young adults, through a mental health lens </li><li>Collaborate with peer support workers who will support cooking classes and provide mental health expertise </li><li>Participate in relevant training and learning opportunities</li><li>Additional duties as required.&nbsp;</li></ul>CORE COMPETENCIES:&nbsp;<ul><li>The ability to ensure kitchen and food safety</li><li>Experience as a cook or kitchen assistant in a community setting</li><li>Able to manage multiple tasks while staying calm and role modeling to young adult learners and co-workers. </li><li>Experience and enthusiasm working with youth and young adults </li><li>Creative and a team player</li><li>Enthusiasm about group facilitation, community engagement, and encouraging our young adult participants that they are valued and can reach their potential</li><li>Experience working in a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive environment</li><li>Experience working in the mental health and/or social services sector and/or lived experience with mental health is an asset</li><li>Ability to thrive in the Stella’s Place environment as expressed in our mission, vision and values</li></ul>QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:<ul><li>1-2 years’ experience working as a cook in a community kitchen and/or related experience </li><li>Food safety certification</li><li>Experience in menu planning and inventory management </li><li>Experience working with vulnerable populations</li><li>Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills</li><li>A valid vulnerable sector screening will be required prior to employment starting.&nbsp;</li></ul>HOURS &amp; REPORTING:This position reports to the Expressive Arts Therapist Manager.&nbsp;This opportunity is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 16-24 hours a week.&nbsp;DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND ACCOMMODATION:Stella’s Place is committed to having a workforce that reflects the diversity of the City of Toronto in general and of our participants in particular.
