About Us

Founded in 1976 as a feminist organization, the Pictou County Women’s Resource and Sexual Assault Centre (PCWRSAC) is the oldest Women’s Centre in Nova Scotia. We provide support, navigation, information, referrals, advocacy, programs for all women and multi-gender therapeutic services for individuals affected by sexualized violence across Pictou County.PCWRSAC explicitly operates from a trauma-informed, intersectional approach. Our specialized sexual violence intervention and prevention framework, MORPH (Mapping Our Road to Power and Healing), is deeply committed to feminist, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive practices that centre equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation.

Trauma Therapist (Part-Time/Job-share)

Location: Pictou County Women’s Resource and Sexual Assault Centre 503 South Frederick Street, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia B2H 3P3

Salary Range: Depended on experience $40.02/hour-$45.05/hour

About the Role

Pictou County Women’s Resource and Sexual Assault Trauma Therapists provide individual and group therapeutic counselling services to individuals of all genders, ages 16 and up, who have experienced sexualized violence. Therapy services are offered in-person, online and via phone.

Responsibilities:

Direct Counselling: Provide trauma-informed counselling sessions for clients through one-on-one and group sessions. Manage intakes processes and waitlists, and handle the closure of inactive files. This work is grounded in feminist approaches and support, including individual and peer supervision.

Administrative Duties: Record and maintain up to date client records in accordance with professional standards. Report monthly statistics for reporting and planning purposes.

Community Collaboration: Work closely with team members and community partners to create wraparound and coordinated care for clients.

Training: Engage in ongoing professional development to support trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and survivor-centered therapeutic practice.

Team culture: Participate in staff meetings, committees and working groups as required.

The right person will bring:

Educational background: Minimum of a Masters in Social Work, Counselling or Psychology and registered with associated regulatory body (NSCSW, NSCCT, NSBEP)

Counselling experience: 3+ overall years of experience in providing counselling, crisis support and advocacy

Trauma-informed practice: A supportive, non-judgmental lens in all interactions and experience working with diverse and marginalized populations

Collaboration and advocacy: Demonstrated experience networking, advocating and collaborating to improve access to services, including a strong knowledge of local community organizations and systems to support referrals and partnerships.

Value alignment: Commitment to feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppressive and intersectional values. Specialized experience related to sexual violence is considered an asset.

Relational teamwork and self-reflection: Proven ability to work collaboratively and actively monitor and address vicarious trauma.

Working Conditions:

Hours: Job Share of a 35 hour full time position. PCWRSAC office hours are 9-4:30 with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
