About CSSP The Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples (CSSP) is a trusted, community-rooted organization dedicated to supporting the Latin American and Spanish-speaking community in Toronto. Position Summary&nbsp; The Violence Against Women (VAW) Counsellor will provide culturally and linguistically appropriate individual and group counselling services to all women, including but not limited to cisgender or other self identified women impacted by intimate partner violence, family violence, or sexual abuse. The position centers trauma-informed care within a Latinx/Spanish-speaking context and supports clients navigating intersecting barriers such as precarious immigration status, poverty, and systemic oppression. Services include counselling, safety planning, case management, outreach, and referrals.&nbsp; This position plays a key role in our 2141 Jane Street office, collaborating closely with other Violence Against Women (VAW) Counsellors and a part-time Transitional Housing Support Worker. Across Boundaries is a mental health center that provides a range of mental health and addictions support and 

services to individuals from racialized and Black communities in the Greater Toronto Area. We have a holistic approach 

to mental health care and operate within an anti-racism/anti-oppression and resisting anti-Black racism frameworks. 

These frameworks focus on providing opportunities to respond to systemic barriers, advocate for the inclusion of 

traditionally and historically silenced voices at decision-making tables, and strive for change at individual, 

organizational and systemic levels. 

Job Summary: 

The Social Worker will report directly to the Program Manager. They will work collaboratively with various teams to 
provide prompt and appropriate access to services for racialized individuals from the community who are experiencing 
mental health and addictions issues. The worker will provide both intensive and non-intensive services to clients based 
on their needs and will have a caseload of up to 20 to 25 program participants. The Social Worker will be expected to 
work directly in the community using the agency van for outreach and support to community members. 
 
Normal Hours for full-time employees consist of five (5) shifts or eight (8) hours per day, Monday to Friday, and Saturdays 
on a rotating basis, inclusive of a thirty (30) minutes unpaid lunch break (entitled under the ESA) and an additional two 
(fifteen (15) minute unpaid rest breaks. Normal hours of work will generally be scheduled between 8:00 am and 8:00 
pm. Employees may be requested, but not required, to work some Sundays. 

Qualifications &amp; Responsibilities: 
 

 • Master’s degree in social work from a recognized university or equivalent. 

 • Knowledge of holistic, anti-racism/anti-oppression and resisting anti-Black racism frameworks as guiding 

principles for assessing and developing treatment plans for clients. 

 • Supervised clinical training. 

 • Practical experience in the use of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) 

and able to provide psychotherapeutic assessments and structured counseling to individuals presenting with a 

wide range of mental health conditions. 

 • Clinical competence to provide structured counseling in the areas of trauma, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, 

and/or addictions. 

 • Experience with case management an asset. 

 • Demonstrated ability to produce detailed, high-quality assessment and treatment reports and clinical 

documentation. 

 • Able to communicate and work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment and willingness to accept 

clinical direction. 

 • Familiarity with the Ontario Mental Health Act and Mental Health reform. 

 • Proficiency in assessment, psychotherapy, and psychosocial counselling techniques for working with 

individuals, groups, and communities. 

 • Demonstrated skill and competence in establishing supportive, trusting relationships with persons living with 

mental health and addictions issues. 

 • Familiarity with signs and symptoms of trauma, able to respond appropriately in making referrals and helping 

clients manage these symptoms. 

 • Experience working with clients with a concurrent disorder and those living in unstable housing situations or 

homelessness. 

 • Demonstrated ability to work independently, cooperatively, and constructively within a multidisciplinary team 

environment.

Job Summary: 

Across Boundaries is recruiting for a permanent full time Case Manager to provide services to those experiencing 

serious mental illness/addictions and are involved with the criminal justice system. The workers will report directly to 

the Program Manager and work collaboratively within and across teams to provide prompt and appropriate access to 

services to individuals from racialized communities who are experiencing mental health problems and substance use 

challenges. The workers will provide both intensive and non-intensive services depending on service 

user needs and will have an average caseload of 20-25. Normal Hours for full-time employees consist of five (5) shifts or 
eight (8) hours per day, Monday to Friday, and Saturdays on a rotating basis, inclusive of a thirty (30) minutes unpaid

Identify service gaps and share them with the Manager of Skills for Life and Transitional Housing Programs to inform new initiatives.</li><li>Participate in networks, coalitions, meetings, and partnerships to promote the organization, address refugee claimant issues across all age groups, and contribute to program evaluation.</li></ul>2.Implement the Program<ul><li>Implement individual and group settlement counselling, comprehensive life skills, the settlement orientation program, mentoring partnerships, and outreach supports for child and family refugee claimants in the Transitional Housing Program, promoting self-determination and independence with a focus on education enhancement or employment training.</li><li>Coordinate service delivery with the Child and Family Social Worker, the Manager of Skills for Life and Transitional Housing Programs, and internal and external partners, applying an integrated anti-racism, access, and equity framework.</li><li>Identify service gaps and use trained Interpreters to ensure clients’ right to services in their first language, in accordance with agency policy</li><li>3.Program Administration</li><li>Maintain client files, complete all case management forms, and ensure documentation meets legal standards with updated notes, following organizational confidentiality and anonymity policies.</li><li>Maintain accurate records for program expenses in accordance with organizational financial policies, including petty cash, program expenses, and tokens.</li><li>Maintain up-to-date resources for refugees and refugee claimants such as TTC maps, lawyer lists, physicians, and community legal clinics.</li><li>Maintain service statistics and complete report writing as required.</li></ul>4.Program Control and Risk Management<ul><li>Complete case file notes and reports in a timely manner, ensuring they are current and up to date.</li><li>Communicate any risks in programming activities and all complaints to the Manager of Skills for Life and Transitional Housing Programs for investigation, with the Executive Director investigating complaints involving the Human Rights Code.</li><li>Write incident and serious occurrence reports and issue verbal warnings as an educational and deterrent measure for non-compliance with the Terms and Conditions of the Transitional Housing contract, in consultation with management and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.</li><li>5.Community Relations/Advocacy/Education and Outreach&nbsp; Maintain positive partnerships with community groups, organizations, schools, hospitals/clinics, childcare facilities, the court system, and other resources to support the goals of the Transitional Housing Program.</li><li>Represent the organization at community activities, networks, and coalitions on refugee settlement issues to enhance its profile.</li></ul>6.Social Justice and Anti-Racism, Access and Equity<ul><li>Keep abreast with social justice issues especially as they affect youth, families, refugees and refugee claimants and ensure the advancement of their issues from an anti-racism, access and equity framework both in the internal and external community of the organization</li></ul>7. General<ul><li>Comply with all agency policies, procedures, the Code of Conduct, and ethics at all times, including when representing the agency with external stakeholders.</li><li>Work collaboratively with shelter and transitional housing staff, attend required meetings and training sessions, meet with funders as needed, and assist with other duties as required.</li></ul>What You’ll Need<ul><li>Minimum 2-year College Diploma in Social Service Worker or Community Service Worker required</li><li>Proof of relevant training or course work from a recognized institution in the area of trauma informed counselling</li><li>Three (3) or more years of progressive experience in settlement child, youth and family services</li><li>Working knowledge of IRPA, Mental Health Act, Ontario Works, Landlord/Tenant Act, RGI, Child and Family Services Act, and related procedures.</li><li>Knowledge of refugee law, refugee determination process, settlement issues, and refugee client groups including children, single adults, and families who have experienced trauma requiring high maintenance and supports.</li><li>Knowledge of stages of child development.</li><li>Applied knowledge of individual, group, and crisis counselling skills, including couple and family counselling, crisis intervention, case management, and case coordination.</li><li>Knowledge of and ability to apply an integrated anti-racism, access, and equity framework to community development and systemic legal advocacy</li></ul>Working conditions<ul><li>Usually works in an office environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take the Child and Family Settlement Counselor to non-standard workplaces.</li><li>Work a standard work week of 37.5 hours; Monday to Friday 10am – 5.30pm with occasional evenings to facilitate programming and client availability.
