ABOUT NORTH YORK WOMEN’S CENTRE
North York Women’s Centre (NYWC) is a community-based organization committed to supporting women through accessible, inclusive, and empowering services. Through employment support programs, peer support initiatives, workshops, outreach, and advocacy, NYWC works to reduce barriers and improve the social and economic well-being of women and gender-diverse people across Toronto.
NYWC is expanding its employment and outreach programming through the STEPS to Work program. NYWC’s STEPS to Work program is a 9-week employment and financial empowerment initiative designed to support economically vulnerable women through career development, skill-building, financial literacy, and personalized coaching. Through the “Steps to Work: Outreach Expansion” project, NYWC is expanding services into underserved communities, increasing workshop offerings, integrating flexible drop-in supports, and enhancing online accessibility through digital resources and video content. The program is grounded in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles and provides culturally responsive, accessible support for women facing systemic barriers to employment and financial stability.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Program and Projects Coordinator is a dynamic hybrid role that combines program coordination, participant support, employment programming, and organizational administration. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Manager of Group Programs and Peer Support Team, this role serves as a key connector between senior leadership, operations, employment programming, and community initiatives.
The Coordinator will support the implementation and growth of employment-related initiatives, including the STEPS to Work program and peer support programming, while also assisting with organizational administration, grant reporting coordination, meeting management, stakeholder communications, and systems organization.
This role is ideal for a highly organized, relationship-oriented professional who can manage multiple priorities, maintain strong administrative systems, and contribute to mission-driven community programming.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Program Coordination & Project Support - 70%
- Coordinate program schedules, participant registration, referrals, attendance tracking, and follow-up communication.
- Maintain program records, databases, reporting trackers, and evaluation tools for timelines, deliverables, participant engagement, and program outcomes.
- Support participants through individualized one-to-one employment support check-ins, helping them identify goals, explore education and employment pathways, and connect with appropriate community resources.
- Support the facilitation of employment readiness workshops, group discussions, and community programming.
- Assist participants in identifying transferable skills, employment goals, and next steps.
- Develop and maintain referral relationships with Employment Ontario providers, educational institutions, training providers, and community organizations.
- Assist with collecting participant data, testimonials, surveys, and program outcomes for funder reporting and evaluation purposes.
- Coordinate logistics for community events, knowledge-sharing sessions, outreach activities, and training initiatives.
Executive & Administrative Support - 15%
- Provide program administrative and grant-related support to the Executive Director and program leadership team.
- Organize and maintain confidential and program-related digital and physical filing systems.
- Support operational processes, including purchasing supplies, invoices, expense tracking, and basic budget monitoring.
Operations Support - 15%
- Support day-to-day administration and office coordination.
- Assist with planning and maintaining welcoming, organized, and accessible program spaces.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
Education & Experience
- Diploma or degree and/or lived experience/equivalent in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Services, Community Development, Project Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in administrative coordination, project coordination, or nonprofit program administration.
- Experience working within nonprofit, community, employment, social service, or equity-focused environments is strongly preferred.
- Experience facilitating workshops and employment readiness training.
- Experience supporting grant-funded projects or community-based initiatives is considered an asset.
Skills & Competencies
- Sound knowledge of current labour market trends, Canadian workplace practices, job search strategies and techniques for effective job search
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, privacy, and exercise sound judgment.
- Comfort and familiarity with case management/database, CRM systems, data collection tools, program evaluation processes, and other software and tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, computer applications, mobile technology and online/cloud-based platforms and comfortable learning new technology
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of anti-oppression, diversity, equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices.
- Comfort in working remotely and on-site to help women to access services remotely and support women who may have minimal digital literacy skills
- Proven commitment to anti-racism/anti-oppression, feminism and social justice
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hybrid work environment with in-person program and meeting requirements across Toronto.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for events or workshops.
