About AIM&nbsp;<a href="https://autisminmind.org/" target="_blank">https://autisminmind.org/</a> Autism In Mind Children’s Charity (AIM) was founded in 2011 by Suki Choi, who aimed to provide children with autism an equal opportunity in life. The charity began with just one child. When Suki first started her daycare business in Markham, she was approached by a family whose son had been on the government waitlist for autism therapy for four years. Moved by their situation, Suki organized a fundraiser. The generous response from the community and daycare parents inspired her to do even more. Suki and a team of volunteers began fundraising on behalf of other local families to help their children access professional therapy. They also organized free Social Saturdays for children with autism. The momentum from these small acts of kindness grew rapidly. Within just a few years, AIM became a registered charity in Canada and emerged as one of the leading service providers for children with autism in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). AIM transitioned from being solely volunteer-driven to a team of over 60 full-time staff members, offering a multidisciplinary approach to providing direct services for families and children with autism. Our Values<ul><li>Every child deserves the chance to learn, connect, dream, grow, and shine.</li><li>Community is a driving force in creating awareness, acceptance, and change.</li><li>Meeting families’ needs means understanding where they are now before guiding them forward.</li><li>Little things are never really little so we should celebrate every milestone.</li></ul>Responsibilities of the Board<ul><li>Provide strategic governance to the organization, ensuring that its mission, vision, and values are upheld.</li><li>Attend all Board meetings and participate independently and knowledgeably in deliberations.</li><li>Enhance the organization’s public image.</li><li>Lead and support fundraising efforts and resource development.</li><li>Stay informed about committee matters, prepare thoroughly for meetings, and review and comment on minutes and reports.</li><li>Contribute to the development of policies that guide the organization toward its strategic goals.</li><li>Operate with integrity and credibility, demonstrating a passion for improving the lives of individuals that we serve.&nbsp;</li><li>Approve the annual budget and audit reports, and review quarterly activities as presented in the financial reports.</li><li>Build collegial working relationships with other Directors and committee members to foster productive and effective meetings and outcomes.</li><li>Review strategies and contribute to annual operating plans through constructive input.</li><li>Cultivate relationships with corporate and community partners to support the outreach effort.</li><li>Participate in AIM fundraising and other relevant special events.</li><li>Assess the performance of the Board as the governing body of the organization.</li></ul>Time Commitment:<ul><li>The Board meets 4-8 times per year</li><li>Each Director should be available to serve on at least one committee</li><li>Directors are expected to serve, at least, one 2-year term</li></ul>Qualifications:<ul><li>Demonstrated professional, executive or leadership experience and accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the non-profit sector</li><li>Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals</li><li>Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skill</li></ul>An understanding of, or experience in, either of the following specialties will be seen as an asset:<ul><li>Finance/Accounting</li><li>Legal</li><li>Human Resources</li><li>Real Estate Development Industry</li><li>Digital Marketing</li></ul>

BOARD MEMBERNewMakeIt is a collaborative space facility in Newmarket that enables members of the local community to start innovative, creative, entrepreneurial or learning endeavours. We provide the physical space, tools, and technology to turn ideas into reality. NewMakeIt is a space for community members to work, make, and learn.&nbsp; We are a not-for-profit organization that is made possible through the funding and support from the Government of Ontario, the Regional Municipality of York, and the Town of Newmarket. We are looking for Board Members to join the team! Please note that this is a volunteer position.&nbsp; POSITION OVERVIEW: The Board Member will join the existing Board of Directors in governing the organization and providing clear strategic direction and well-defined expectations, so our workshops and services are successful. The ideal candidate cares about not-for-profit organizations and is a strategic thinker with strong leadership and communication skills.&nbsp; NewMakeIt would benefit greatly from Board members that bring a diverse and broad experience base from a variety of sectors including technology, legal, sales, accounting, engineering, architecture, etc.&nbsp; The Board Member will be able to participate in board meetings as a voting member in the development of strategy and policy. The Board meets approximately 8-10 times per year and has an Annual General Meeting (AGM) where the membership and the community are invited and encouraged to attend.&nbsp; The Board Member can expect to commit approximately 3-6 hours on average per month, with some months being busier than others. Board meetings are typically held at 7pm on the third Tuesday of every month. The meetings are typically 90 minutes in length. The Board Member can attend these meeting virtually and are encouraged to attend in person when a venue is selected. If you are looking to make a significant difference and contribution to a not-for-profit organization, this role is for you!&nbsp; The Board Member will: • Participate and advise on the strategic direction for NewMakeIt. • Advocate for NewMakeIt’s work and mission in your own network and circle of influence. • Provide guidance, suggestions, and expertise on matters that would be beneficial for the long-term growth of NewMakeIt. • Be informed of agenda items, read material in advance and contribute knowledgeably to the discussion and decisions of the Board. • Be informed about NewMakeIt’s policies, programs, services, and the needs of the community and NewMakeIt’s constituents. • Develop an understanding of Board governance and risk management strategies. &nbsp;BOARD MEMBER OBJECTIVES &amp; COMMITMENT: • Background in finance, fundraising, sales, or entrepreneurship is considered an asset for NewMakeIt. • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking to strategy. • Participate through informed decision-making that reflect the best interests of the organization, community, and individuals served. • Participate in meetings and volunteer expertise for two to three hours monthly. • Lead and expand the organization’s resource base by sharing expertise and actively supporting fundraising efforts. • Bring a high degree of interest or expertise in the areas the organization addresses for long-term strategic growth. • Previous board experience is an asset but not required. • Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic planning and non-profit development efforts. • Identify and declare any conflict of interest or potential conflict of interest. • Comply with all Board policies.
