Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Services (SAVIS) of Halton is a non-profit organization providing free and confidential support to all survivors of sexual violence. We promote community education, advocate against violence, and are committed to anti-oppression, anti-racism, and feminist, trauma-informed care.

SAVIS’s mandate is to provide free, confidential, and non-judgmental 24-hour support to all survivors of violence including women, men, and members of the transgendered and gender-fluid community. We advocate against violence in the community and promote prevention through community education. SAVIS is a feminist organization whose mission is to build a world free from of violence and oppression.

Volunteer Board Member Opportunity:
The Board of Directors is looking for members who have demonstrated interest in ending gender-based violence (GBV) and sexual violence, and human trafficking or have lived experiences surviving gender-based and/or sexual violence. Previous experience serving on a non-for-profit, community based GBV or sexual violence board, organization or committee is a definite asset, but we encourage all interested applicants to apply.

SAVIS of Halton’s Board of Directors works in partnership with its Executive Director to ensure the success of the organization. In addition to participating in monthly Board and Committee meetings, Board Members are expected to support the organization at SAVIS hosted events, the Annual General Meeting, Take Back the Night, fundraising events and community awareness events.

SAVIS and its Board Members have a commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and we encourage people of diverse backgrounds to apply. We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous community members, Two-Spirited individuals, women, trans, and gender-diverse individuals, racialized people and individuals with disabilities. If contacted, please advise us if you require any accommodation.

If interested, please send your Resume and a Letter of Interest indicating your experience and motivation for wanting to join the SAVIS of Halton Board of Directors. In your Letter of Interest please answer the following question:

The policies and practices of SAVIS of Halton are informed by a Feminist and Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppressive framework. What does this mean to you, and as a board member how would you contribute to making SAVIS a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization?
