Position Summary

Reporting to the Youth Skills & Work Supervisor, (or designate), the Youth Skills & Work Mentor will support the delivery of youth programming focused on skill-building and work readiness for youth aged 15+. This temporary, short-term contract role will support operational peaks and increased service demands during the spring and summer programming period. The Youth Mentor will help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that supports youth in working toward their personal and professional goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement skill-building and work readiness activities reflecting the needs and interests of local youth (e.g., resume support, job search strategies, interview preparation, employment resources, self-employment and entrepreneurship, communication skills, etc.).
  • Support the design and facilitation of workshops and group activities that prompt leadership, teamwork, self-awareness, and goal-setting, independence, accountability, etc.).
  • Provide one-on-one support to youth as needed, including guidance on employment and personal development goals.
  • Support youth engagement through outreach, relationship-building, and consistent program presence.
  • Assist with program planning, evaluation, and reporting as part of the Youth Program team.
  • Support youth-centred activities that contribute to an inclusive, engaged, and harmonious environment for youth.
  • Support crisis prevention, de-escalation, and emergency response using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Collaborate with the program team to ensure daily opening and closing procedures of designated youth program spaces, and appropriate upkeep of facilities (clean, tidy, attractive, protected from misuse/theft, etc.).
  • Participate in staff training, meetings, and community events as required.
  • Support cross-departmental collaboration, contribute with enthusiasm to WWCC initiatives, and embody the values of Warden Woods as part of our unique communities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year of experience working directly with youth in a community setting.
  • Experience facilitating youth programs focused on employment, skills development, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated understanding of barriers facing youth within Warden Woods and how to apply a trauma-informed approach.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate group activities and support youth engagement in a respectful and inclusive way.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to build rapport with youth.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Understanding of equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive practices.
  • Knowledge of community life in Southwest Scarborough is an asset.
  • Education or training in Social Work, Community Development, Employment/Career Development, or a related field is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR C Certificate and Food Handler’s Certification are an asset.
  • A clear Criminal Reference Check is a condition of employment.

Compensation and Hours of Work:

  • Employment type: Contract, Part-time
  • Contract ending August 31, 2026
  • Hours: Up to 30 hours per week; Monday to Friday, 5-hour shifts between 10 AM and 9 PM, weekends as needed (subject to change as per program requirements)
  • Hourly Rate: $22.58
  • Work Location: in-person at 74 Firvalley Court, Scarborough
