OVERVIEW
The Youth Recreational and Leisure Activities Counsellor will support the Recreational Program Leader and assist the Family Life Minister in organizing, overseeing, and directing camp activities and various parish seniors events held throughout the employment period. This role emphasizes the vibrant, hands-on work of leading camp programs, while also providing supportive, meaningful engagement for seniors in the community. This job is a seasonal (temporary) full-time position starting July 8th, 2026 until July 19th, 2026.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with helping the Recreational Leader run safe, fun, and engaging camp activities by setting up materials, organizing games, crafts, and outdoor programs, and with group supervision.
- Support children during activities, encourage participation, help manage behaviour, and ensure smooth transitions throughout the day.
- Take a lead role in running certain activities or small groups when directed by the Recreational Program Leader.
- Assist the Recreational Program Leader in setting up and facilitating light recreational or social activities such as games, crafts, gentle exercise, or community gathering for seniors.
- Act as a supportive team member who ensures both children’s camp programs and seniors events run smoothly, stepping into a leadership role when required.
- Help with the creation of various liturgical living kits.
- Carrying out reasonable duty requests from members of the parish staff.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- Entering grade 12 or university/college or in university/college
- Practicing the Catholic faith and be knowledgeable in the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Exemplify skills in public speaking and active listening
- Enthusiastic, energetic, outgoing, patient, punctual, friendly, reliable, creative, and work well independently as well as in a group
- Very proficient in Canva as well as Google Sheets and Docs
- Willing to work hard to organize and create materials for each camp day
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, teaching skills, time management and organizational skills, and interpersonal skills - Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- A criminal background check will be required of the successful applicant
