The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) is a national non-profit organization working to create an environment where girls, women, and gender-diverse individuals in Canada can pursue their interests, education, and careers in STEM without barriers. Position Overview

SCWIST is a mission-driven organization dedicated to championing the next generation of diverse STEM leaders across Canada - particularly those historically underrepresented in STEM - to pursue their futures in STEM through transformative STEM learning opportunities, skills building, mentorship, and hands-on programming.

The Youth Engagement Coordinator will play a vital role in preparing youth for these opportunities. The ideal candidate is a passionate STEM professional with a strong commitment to youth engagement and a proven ability to inspire, support, and guide young people as they navigate STEM pathways and prepare to drive innovation and economic growth in Canada.

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Youth Engagement Coordinator to support the development, delivery, and evaluation of high-impact STEM education and mentorship for youth across Canada. The ideal candidate is committed to championing equity and inclusion in STEM, is passionate about working with youth, and brings a creative, positive, community-centred approach to programming and relationship-building, combined with strong organization, communication, engagement, and agile project/program coordination skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support the successful delivery of key Youth Engagement programs, including but not limited to:
  • Recruiting of student cohorts from across Canada
  • Continuously communicating with student cohort through email, online portal (e.g., circle), etc
  • Recruiting and providing ongoing communication and support to volunteer mentors
  • Effectively schedule and attend all virtual meetings with mentors and students
  • Updating Vulnerable Sector Check Records
  • Facilitating student and mentor workshops for Quantum Leaps and running events as needed.
  • Mentoring students on career and academic pathways
  • Facilitating the Student Funding portion of the program
  • Promoting events and summarizing feedback for reporting internally and to external funding agencies is required. 

  • Support with fostering and maintaining positive relationships with all key stakeholders involved in Youth Engagement programs.
  • Proactively recommend and implement program improvements to better serve program participants.
  • Any other tasks as required, as deemed necessary by SCWIST to support the organization’s objectives and operations.

As you will be working with high school students across Canada, this position requires flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for virtual meetings. Some travel may be required as needed regionally or nationally.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A degree in a STEM field is an asset.
  • Passion for innovation and youth engagement that advances the next generation of STEM talent.
  • Understanding of Canada’s STEM ecosystem and career paths.
  • Proven experience coordinating a mentoring program or mentoring youth from diverse communities.
  • Passion for SCWIST’s mission and commitment to supporting women, gender diverse people, equity-deserving, and underrepresented communities in STEM.
  • Entrepreneurship skills and experience is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while fostering collaboration.
  • Exceptional project management, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills, including strong public-speaking and presentation abilities.
  • Strong understanding of Agile project management principles, including contributions to evaluation frameworks, performance indicators, and continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable using digital tools, virtual learning platforms, and emerging technologies to support program delivery.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and relationship-building skills.

Other Details

  • Location: Remote (Candidate MUST be within Canada)
  • Schedule: Full-time employment, 35 hours per week,
    including occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Salary Range: $25 to $30 per hour
