Reporting lines: The Youth Coordinator reports to the Managing Director.

Under the supervision of the Managing Director, the Youth Coordinator implements all elements of the program, “Growing Roots”.

Project Description

The Canada Service Corps (CSC) program helps all youth (aged 12 to 30) including those from underrepresented groups, to create, promote and facilitate access to volunteer service placements in order to support lasting civic engagement and provide youth with life and work skills Youth Volunteer Service Placements is intended to support and facilitate access to new volunteer service placements within the community and to encourage communities to engage youth in service.

Project Objectives

Mabelle Arts' new youth leadership program, Growing Roots: Connecting Low-income, Racialized & Newcomer Youth to Community Service Opportunities, will engage youth in meaningful and impactful part-time volunteer service opportunities that address identified needs in the community in which they live: Mabelle Avenue. Between January 2025 and March 2027, Growing Roots will provide 86 newcomer, refugee, and racialized youth ages 12 to 30 with exciting experiential opportunities for community service, leadership development and skills training.

Role Description

The Youth Coordinator will play a youth point of contact, on-site role, leading the delivery of Growing Roots. This junior-level position requires two+ years of prior experience working with racialized, low-income youth in community arts, community development and/or social service settings. Strong planning and multitasking skills are essential to the role to strategically meet EDSC funder deliverables and outcomes. matched with strong facilitation and relationship-building skills. Attention to detail and intermediate administrative competency will be key to realizing, tracking and reporting on funder requirements, deliverables and outcomes. Some input into program development and direct partner communications will offer growth opportunities for the Youth Coordinator, as they deepen their understanding of youth volunteer mobilization, leadership training and cross-cultural collaboration through the co-creative arts.

Responsibilities Include:

Youth Volunteer Coordination and Logistics 60%

  • On-site point person and monitor of all Youth Service Volunteer activities
  • Youth Service Volunteer program orientation
  • Scheduling Youth volunteer group activities, service placements, trainings and learning opportunities according to their interests and learning goals.
  • Tracking and Monitoring Youth Volunteer learning through the creation of individual youth learning plans
  • Coordinating regular group volunteer outreach meet-ups, information sessions, service workshops and year-end volunteer honorary events.
  • Providing group and one-on-one support and guidance to youth volunteers to ensure safe, connective and meaningful volunteer experiences and to troubleshoot service placement challenges as they arise.
  • Booking and scheduling of Program Artist Facilitators, Subject Matter Experts, Trainers and Partners Placements
  • Youth Service Placement Scheduling and follow-ups in collaboration with the Program Manager, WTTN Program Coordinator) and other placement partners
  • Event, Field Trip and Workshop Logistics (i.e. space bookings, materials purchases, day schedules plan creation and dissemination, transportation arrangements, etc. , schedules

Outreach and Communications 20%

  • Devise and Lead effective Youth peer outreach and communication campaigns to promote the program to local youth volunteers.
  • Documentary and Social Media content creation for Mabelle Arts communication platforms that feature youth volunteer voices, accomplishments and contributions with online audiences, funders and supporters

Administration 20%

  • Registration and Intake of Youth Volunteers
  • Accurate Tracking of Youth Volunteer completion of trainings, Service

Contribution Hours and event attendance in accordance with funder requirements.

  • Ensure adherence to funder, partner and Mabelle Arts confidentiality and informed consent protocols in all documentation, data tracking and reporting elements related to the project; and
  • Collect and compile Mabelle Arts evaluation data as directed.
