About Us: Moms Stop the Harm (MSTH) is a network of Canadian families impacted by substance-use-related harm and death. We advocate for the change of failed drug policies, provide peer support to grieving families, and assist those with loved ones who use or have used substances.
Job Summary: Reporting to the MSTH Program Co-ordinator, the Youth Coordinator will play a key role in engaging and supporting youth across Canada who have been impacted by substance use within their families and communities. This position is responsible for recruiting, coordinating, and facilitating youth Healing Hearts and Holding Hope groups across Canada, as well as establishing a national youth steering committee and providing ongoing support to youth participants and volunteers. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of substance use and its effects on families—especially youth—and be comfortable discussing topics related to substance use, trauma, bereavement, stigma, grief, and loss.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, onboard, and provide consistent support to youth participating in a national Youth Steering Committee.
- Implement Holding Hope and Healing Hearts groups to provide support for youth.
- Facilitate ongoing meetings and communication with the Youth Steering Committee to ensure meaningful engagement and collaboration.
- Utilize input from youth, youth groups, and relevant organizations to guide program direction, development, and improvement.
- Support youth with empathy, professionalism, and a calm approach to navigating sensitive issues, including stigma, substance use, death, trauma, grief, and loss.
- Identify and assess the ongoing needs of youth participants, leveraging existing resources or developing new ones as necessary.
- Maintain strict adherence to all confidentiality and privacy policies outlined under Moms Stop the Harm guidelines.
- Assist in collecting data related to program activities to support program evaluation and reporting.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience working with youth in a leadership, support, or coordination role.
- Previous experience working with youth in crisis intervention, counselling, social work, or a related field.
- BA in Social Work or relevant field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of substance use and its impacts on families and communities.
- Demonstrated comfort and sensitivity in discussing difficult topics, including trauma and grief.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with youth and community partners.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated experience in developing education-oriented materials.
- Awareness and understanding of substance use, harm reduction, and the ability to work using a harm reduction approach.
- Skilled in discussing issues of substance use, trauma and bereavement.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness.
- Proficiency using Google Workspace tools.
Contract Length:
- 1-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension dependent on funding
Working Hours:
- This is a contract role for 25 hours per week. Ability to work varied hours across all Canadian time zones, as well as evenings and weekends.
- MSTH is a fully remote, national organization, and the youth coordinator may be required to work within specified dayparts that require related support across all time zones.

Compensation:
- Between $28.00 – $32.00/hr based upon applicant experience.
