
World Sight Day Event Volunteer
This is an in-person volunteer opportunity in Toronto (North York) ON for October 9th, 2025 from 12:00pm - 5:30pm
The Canadian Council of the Blind is seeking Event Volunteers for our upcoming World Sight Day Conference in North York, ON. Event Volunteers will provide essential support by assisting guests who are blind, low vision, or experiencing sight loss.
The goal of this conference is to raise awareness about the intersection of eye health research, lived experience, mental health, and accessibility. With the theme “Act Now, Act Together” we will highlight the urgent need to influence policies, amplify voices, and ensure that inclusive decision-making is at the heart of vision health.
As an Event Volunteer, you will be responsible for assisting guests with disabilities navigate the conference. You may guide guests to their seats, provide general directions, and assist with serving light fare (sandwiches, coffee, tea, etc.)
Volunteers must:
- Be comfortable providing directions.
- Speak confidently and clearly.
- Be comfortable interacting with and working with people who are blind, low vision, experiencing sight loss, and/or have multiple disabilities.
Preference to those with experience working with and guiding people who are blind, low vision, or experiencing sight loss. A tutorial on guiding will be provided.

Thursday, October 9, 2025 12:00 pm – 5:30 pm (EDT) (Shifts can be arranged to suit your schedule).
North York Central Library — Concourse Event Space 5120 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON M2N 5N9
Benefits to Volunteers:
Volunteers will have the opportunity to attend conference discussions around health policy, disability justice, and eye/vision health. Volunteers will be given lunch and light refreshments (coffee, tea, water). Upon request, references and letters of recognition will be provided. Skills and competencies include: client service, experience working with people with disabilities, event management and support.
