Volunteer Leader for the Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada (BECC) Web Team

Do you have experience with WordPress and website development?

Would you like to help make our cities more sustainable?

Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada (BECC) is looking for a leader to coordinate a team managing a

national Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) website and local BEC websites for four cities. A BEC uses

education and activities to engage people in sustainability, in urban and surrounding rural areas

of a city. The national website (https://BioEcoCity.org) explains this approach.

BACKGROUND

BECC is a national charity that supports development of BECs. It has created initiatives and

websites in four cities. Those local websites (Toronto.BioEcoCity.org, Brampton.BioEcoCity.org,

Edmonton.BioEcoCity.org, and Vancouver.BioEcoCity.org) describe BEC projects in these cities.

BECC also liaises with a fifth pre-existing BEC initiative (Ottawa BEC). Web content is developed

by national or local volunteers, and the web developers decide how to post it. The BECC web

team currently has eight members. Four of them post information on BEC project and four post

content to a database of sustainability projects in each city. There is currently no team leader.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

The web team leader would coordinate the web team in the following ways:

 Communicate with web team members through email or other means

 Liaise with national and local BEC volunteers on content to be posted.

 Help team members to resolve programming issues, when needed

 Promote a similar, but not identical, style among the websites

 Assist with interviews of potential new team members

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE CANDIDATE

The candidate would need experience with WordPress, HTML and CSS. Also needed is the

ability to organize and coordinate tasks. Experience leading a team or project would be an

asset. The work would be remote with an expected time commitment 3-4 hours per week for

six months.
