Position Type: Unionized, On call -Contract
Duration: November 01, 2025 until April 15, 2026
The Warming Centre operates on days that are -5°C or when the City directs them to be open.
About the Role:
The Warming Centre Intake Worker is an entry-level role at Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre (CONC)’s Warming Centre at 136 Spadina Road. Intake Workers provide respectful and compassionate intake, assessment, and support to community members facing barriers such as homelessness, health challenges, substance use, and social isolation. This is a unionized position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete intake, orientation, and documentation for new service users.
- Serve meals and assist with meal-time clean-up.
- Set up and tear down cots; distribute blankets, pillows, and toiletries.
- Provide referrals and resources, supporting access to healthcare, rehab, detox, and other services.
- Build supportive relationships with service users and contribute to a peaceful environment.
- Apply harm reduction strategies and conflict resolution approaches.
- Contribute to team meetings, documentation, and agency initiatives.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years supporting vulnerable community members in a shelter or similar setting.
- College Diploma or University Degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of shelter standards, community resources, and harm reduction practices.
- First Aid and WHMIS required.
- Strong communication, documentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Familiarity with Breaking Barriers orientation is an asset.
- Clear criminal record check required.
